Pastor’s Thoughts 10-2,2024-Oct. 15-2024

BE SELECTIVE!! “Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.” Philippians 4:8 What’s playing in our mind? What are we giving access to? We can’t think negative…and have a positive life. We can’t think sickness…and get well. We can’t think lack…and have abundance. The battle is taking place in our mind. Why are we letting destructive thoughts in? Why are we letting fear roam around? Why are we letting worry have free reign? Why are we allowing doubt to hold us back? We have complete control over what we let in. We can’t stop negative thoughts from coming and knocking on the door…but we don’t have to give them access. We must be selective of what we allow in. Let’s fill our mind with and meditate on these positive, hopeful, faith-filled thoughts today…. –God is restoring health to me. –As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. –My children will be mighty in the land. –I’m a masterpiece…one of a kind…made in the image of God…crowned with favor…wearing a robe of righteousness….fearfully and wonderfully made. “Father, thank You for giving us Your promises to meditate upon. Thank You that Your Word instructs us to think on things that are true and right, wholesome, pure, and of good report. We declare that we will be selective in the thoughts we allow in. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!” ❤️ —Richard Rivera WE ARE WHO HE SAYS WE ARE!!

A lawyer asked me this basic question: If Jesus was ordinary, plain and unimpressive in His physical appearance…why did big burly fisherman leave their nets and follow Him and business sharks in the marketplace leave their cash registers to follow Him? Great Question.

My answer…Who is the real Jesus?

No one is more surprising, baffling, rattling, frustrating, astonishing and compelling.

He was born some 20 centuries ago to an impoverished couple in an obscure part of the planet. He never traveled outside His region. He didn’t write a book. He didn’t have a home. The Romans didn’t consider Him significant enough to record His execution. Jesus stepped into a world with a rigid religious establishment, a pagan empire and political parties of all stripes. Normally at odds with each other, these powers conspired to take Jesus out.

Jesus had no political base. No army. No resources. No voting bloc. No secret service. No spin. No swords. His only weapons were a serving towel, a blood stained cross, an empty tomb, a bunch of scars and a handful of ragamuffins who didn’t start out too hot but ended up out-praying, out-thinking, out-serving and out-living everyone and turned the world upside down.

Jesus befuddled everyone in not fighting…but giving up his life. He didn’t get all bent out of shape every election cycle. He read God’s book more than the newspaper. He prayed more than he talked about praying. He built bridges rather than throw rocks. He blessed more than cursed. Love Him or hate Him…the truth is you can never be the same after an encounter with Jesus.

Jesus had the nerve to hang out with the wrong crowd and sketchy people…the lost, the lame, the irreligious and misfits flocked to Him. He blew people away by saying that tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the Kingdom of Heaven ahead of the religious leaders. Oh how He could tick off powerful people and the respectable folks always seemed threatened by Him. Jesus didn’t play by the rules…that is religious rules. In fact, He was the enemy of dead religion.

Jesus’ teaching drove people crazy. Think about it. He was always saying upside down stuff. If you want to find your life, you must lose it. If you want to live, you must die. Love your enemies. Up is down and down is up. Bear your cross and serve instead of be served. You couldn’t help but scratch your head…yet it seemed so life-giving.

His scandalous message is that the Shalom of God is available to every human being through Him. Amazing Grace is available to all. He didn’t come to start a religion…but to build a relationship. He offers the Grace Plan…not the Human Performance Plan. Jesus did for us what we could never do for ourselves. He is none other than the sin-substitute…the Savior…and the hope of mankind. His invitation is, “Follow me.” Wise men still seek Him.

I hope to inspire people of all backgrounds to consider, wonder, dialogue about and know the person, life and teaching of Jesus. ❤️

SPIRITUAL PREPARATION and CONSTANT READINESS

Matthew 25:4: “The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps.”

This verse comes from the parable of the ten virgins, where Jesus speaks about the importance of being spiritually prepared for His return. The wise virgins, in contrast to the foolish ones, made sure they had enough oil to keep their lamps burning throughout the night. This simple act of preparation symbolizes a heart that is continually filled with the Holy Spirit…living in anticipation and readiness for the return of Christ.

The “oil” in this parable represents our spiritual readiness—our faith, obedience, and relationship with God. Just as the wise virgins prepared ahead of time, we too are called to live in constant readiness…not only for Christ’s return…but also for the daily ways He moves and works in our lives. This means cultivating a life of prayer, studying the Word, and allowing the Holy Spirit to guide us. When we are filled with the oil of God’s presence, we are equipped to shine His light in a dark world and to stand firm in faith when challenges arise.

As we begin this day, let’s ask ourselves if we are spiritually prepared. Are our lamps full? Have we taken the time to nurture our relationship with God and invite the Holy Spirit to fill us afresh? Just as the wise virgins brought extra oil, we must make sure we are continuously seeking God’s presence and guidance…not just in moments of crisis…but every day.

May we live in a state of readiness, with hearts fully surrendered to God, so that when He calls, we are ready to respond. Let’s be wise…filled with the oil of the Spirit…and prepared for whatever God has planned for us today. ❤️

STAY READY…SO YOU DON’T HAVE TO GET READY!!

Proverbs 4:25 in the Message translation: “Keep your eyes straight ahead; ignore all sideshow distractions.” This verse encourages us to maintain a clear, purposeful focus on God’s path for our lives. In a world full of distractions, temptations, and pressures, it can be easy to lose sight of what truly matters—our relationship with God and His calling for us. The writer of Proverbs urges us to fix our gaze firmly on what lies ahead…pursuing God’s will with determination and undivided attention. Distractions often come in many forms: worries, temptations, the opinions of others, or even our own doubts. These “sideshow distractions” can easily pull us away from the life of faith and obedience that God has called us to. By keeping our eyes straight ahead, we are choosing to focus on what is eternal, what truly matters in the grand scope of God’s purpose. This kind of focus requires intentionality and discipline…as we actively turn away from things that pull our attention and devotion away from God. As we walk through today, let’s commit to keeping our eyes fixed on God and His plans for us. Whether we face trials, temptations, or distractions…let’s remember that our true goal is to live in alignment with God’s will…bringing glory to His name. By doing this, we can live with clarity, purpose, and peace, knowing that we are walking the path that God has laid out for us. Let’s trust in His guidance and resist the distractions…focusing on the race marked out for us with our eyes on Christ…the author and perfecter of our faith! ❤️ —Cathy C. Charles

HE MUST INCREASE

The less we trust ourselves…the more we trust God.

The more we decrease…the more He increases.

If we want to walk in God’s power, we must become increasingly acquainted with and rooted in His tender love for His people.

If you wonder if you’ve wandered…just look at the fruit. Are you feeling irritated, judgmental? Are you tempted to construct a case against someone because you’re anticipating an argument? Or are you growing in the grace and knowledge of Jesus?

Are you putting a higher priority on the peace of God? Are you becoming more and more convinced that the Savior not only goes before you…but He’s got your back too?

The more often we return to our First Love…the more we’ll be able to impart that love to a world so desperately in need.

Furthermore, knowing and walking in the intense love of God is one of our highest forms of spiritual warfare. Demons tremble when we operate in Holy Spirit-inspired love! ❤️

Psalm 139:5 NLT ~ You go before me and follow me. You place Your hand of blessing on my head.

BOLD PRAYERS! “There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the LORD listened to a human being.” Joshua 10:14 In Joshua 10, Joshua was winning a battle against five armies, but darkness was coming and the enemy would escape, so he prayed a bold prayer. He asked God to stop the sun in place. In the natural, there’s no possibility of this, but God created the solar system. He spoke the universe into existence. He can stop what He wants to stop and still cause it to work. The next verse simply says, “So the sun and the moon stood still until the Israelites defeated their enemies.” No big explanation for this amazing occurrence. God is not intimidated by bold prayers…and He’s not at a loss to figure out how to bring about His purpose. Stopping the sun was no big deal.  Are you praying bold prayers? Maybe not for the sun to stop, but how about for your child to do something awesome…for you to set a new standard for your family…for you to accomplish that dream that seems far out? God put the desire in you. Perhaps He’s just waiting for you to ask.  “Father, thank You for giving me every reason to believe You for above and beyond the natural. Thank You that nothing and no one is more powerful than You, and I can believe You for the extraordinary. I believe that You are going to show out in my life as You did with Joshua. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!” ❤️ —Richard Rivera

A DEFEATED ENEMY As Joshua led the Israelites out of the desert and into the promised land of Canaan, the first enemy they faced lived in the mighty walled city of Jericho. When spies were sent to Jericho to determine the enemy’s strength, Rahab told the spies, “all who live in this country are melting in fear because of you” (Joshua 2:9). Rahab said the people of Jericho had heard how God parted the Red Sea and how He had been with the Israelites in previous battles. Joshua 2:11 “When we heard of it, our hearts melted and everyone’s courage failed because of you, for the Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below.” God caused the walls of Jericho to collapse and allowed the Israelites to take the city, but the first enemy in the promised land was conquered long before the Israelite army even arrived. The people of Jericho knew of God’s miraculous power and were already defeated. The only thing necessary for victory was for the Israelites to show they were willing to walk in the strength God provided. God does not desire for us to remain in the desert. He has “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11). But to enter the promised land, we must be prepared to face our enemies and trust in the strength of our Heavenly Father. The enemy “prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8). This enemy is very real and ready to attack our areas of weakness. But the enemy is also well aware of God’s power and will turn away any time we make a stand; “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). The enemy’s fate has been sealed – his end has already been determined – but we must daily resist by getting dressed for battle and then trusting in the power of God for our strength. Let’s submit our lives into the loving hands of our Heavenly Father and boldly enter the peace-filled land He has promised. The lion will continue to roar and try to bite, but we must never forget that Jesus has already assured complete victory. When we trust Him with all our heart and daily walk in His strength…we truly face a defeated enemy! ❤️ –Steve Troxel

KING OF THE EARTH

“God reigns over the nations; God sits on His holy throne.”

Psalm 47:8

Our God is the ultimate conqueror of all kingdoms. He will be exalted among the nations. Though awesome in power…He is no tyrant. Therefore, all nations are summoned to welcome His reign with the clapping of hands and the shouting of victory and are invited to “sing praises with understanding” (Ps. 47:7) to the King of all the earth.

Our God conquers…to liberate.

He captures…to release.

He subdues…to free.

Personally or nationally, God is the only King who can truly set free. Because sin enslaves, its power must be broken by a greater power, which is the power of a righteous and holy God. Therefore, we “sing praises with understanding.” We recognize that “God reigns over the nations; God sits on His holy throne.” Only our God…whose throne is holy…is able to free individuals and nations from the tyranny of sin.

So let’s sing His praises with understanding. With the nations, let us clap our hands and shout to God with the voice of triumph!

He is our King! He is the King of all kings! ❤️🎉

“Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” — Ephesians 6:11

In life, we face many spiritual battles. Temptations, doubts, and fears constantly try to pull us away from the path God has called us to walk. But the good news is that God has not left us defenseless. He provides us with spiritual armor to stand firm against the enemy’s attacks.

The “armor of God” is a metaphor for the spiritual tools we need to protect ourselves. This armor includes truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, and the Word of God (Ephesians 6:14-17). Each piece of this armor strengthens us in specific ways, helping us to resist temptation, hold onto our faith, and proclaim the gospel with boldness.

Putting on the armor of God isn’t a one-time event but a daily practice. Every day, we need to renew our minds with God’s Word, pray for strength, and actively live out our faith. In a world full of spiritual warfare, we are called to be both alert and equipped, ready to stand against any schemes that seek to separate us from God.

Life Application:
Consider each day as an opportunity to equip yourself with God’s armor. Reflect on areas where you may be spiritually vulnerable and strengthen those areas through prayer and the Word.

Prayer Points:

  1. Lord, help me to daily put on Your armor to stand strong against spiritual attacks.
  2. Give me wisdom to recognize the enemy’s schemes and resist temptation.
  3. Strengthen my faith and equip me with Your truth and righteousness.

Return to Eden

“The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, the lion shall eat straw like the ox, and dust shall be the serpent’s food. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain,” says the Lord.
Isaiah 65:25

In the “kingdom” of Eden, peace prevailed. In fact, that peace existed both among humans and animals. There was apparently no hostility between humans and animals in Eden (Genesis 2:19-20); animals were not even part of the human diet (Genesis 1:29). But after sin entered the world, that peace disappeared as the rule in creation. Violence became the norm for both man and beast (Genesis 6:5-8).

But peace will return when the Prince of Peace rules the world: “For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea” (Isaiah 11:9). Natural enemies like wolves and lambs, leopards and goats, and lions and calves will exist harmoniously together. Even a child will play with a deadly snake (Isaiah 11:6-8). Just as peace was the norm in Eden, so peace will be the norm in Christ’s Kingdom on earth.

Until that day, let us fulfill our stewardship responsibilities towards God’s creatures that He has entrusted to us.

Everything we have is on loan from the Lord, entrusted to us for a while.
John MacArthur

“For we live by faith, not by sight.” — 2 Corinthians 5:7

As believers, we are called to live differently from the world. The natural tendency is to rely on what we can see, hear, and touch. We want concrete answers and tangible evidence before stepping forward. Yet, the life of faith demands a different perspective—one that trusts in God’s promises even when we can’t see the full picture.

Paul’s words to the Corinthians remind us that our lives should be anchored in faith. To “walk by faith” means trusting God in every situation, even when circumstances seem uncertain or overwhelming. It means believing that God is sovereign and His plans for us are good, even when our human eyes can’t perceive how things will work out.

In times of uncertainty, we must remember that God is faithful. His Word is a lamp to our feet, guiding us step by step (Psalm 119:105). We may not always see the full path ahead, but we can trust that God is with us, directing our way. Walking by faith requires daily surrender, letting go of our desire for control and allowing God to lead.

Life Application:
Is there an area of your life where you are struggling to trust God? Take a step of faith today, trusting in His wisdom and timing, even if you don’t have all the answers.

Prayer Points:

  1. Lord, help me to trust You in uncertain times and rely on Your guidance.
  2. Strengthen my faith when I am tempted to doubt or fear.
  3. Teach me to walk by faith daily, resting in Your promises.

DON’T FORGET YOUR VALUABLE!

I know, I know, you are worried about my grammar. You think the title should be “Don’t Forget, You’re (You ARE) Valuable,” right? Or, you might think my title should be “Don’t Forget Your ‘Valuables,’” not “Valuable!” Well, I wrote the title as it was meant to be written. For this devotion, the word needs to be VALUABLE. I meant to write that word in the singular because this lesson is talking about the ONE thing in your life that is the key to it all. In our lesson for today, an individual comes up to Jesus and asks the million-dollar question, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” That’s the big question; that’s the one that really matters. You see, the Bible talks about life as precious, purposeful, and eternal. Those three all go together. Jesus wants you to know that your life is eternal; you are not just here today and gone tomorrow. He wants you to know that you are precious to Him, that your life matters to Him.

That is exactly what Jesus was trying to show the rich young man in our reading.  Jesus offers him what He also offers to you and me today — Love, HIS LOVE, the eternal and lasting love of God in Jesus Christ, and a life that is purposeful and eternal because of what He has done for you on the cross and by His resurrection. When Jesus tells the man that he lacks “one thing,” He’s trying to get him to receive life, now and forever, as a gift from God. He’s leading him to see that a relationship with Jesus is the key to it all.

So, today, ask yourself questions like these: Is there anything getting in the way of knowing and receiving the one thing that is truly valuable for your life? Are the things of this temporary world more precious to you than knowing the love of God in Christ Jesus now and forever? Are the trinkets of the moment to be more prized than God’s mercy in Christ? Is there anything more precious than knowing that no matter what you’ve done or where you’ve been, life IN HIM can be fresh and new today? He offers you eternal life right now as a gift, apart from any works you have or have not done. Only Christ Jesus can remove everything that stands in the way of having a life that is good, meaningful, and enduring. Trust in what is truly valuable today — your life in Christ! Then the very same Jesus who urged this man to follow Him urges us to live for Him as well. But, first, hear another promise from Him as you face this week. Jesus says, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).PRAYER: Dear Lord Jesus, it’s easy to get caught up in the treasures of the here and now. Give us eyes to see that only in and through You does life become precious, purposeful, and eternal. Then give me the wisdom to follow You as I take up the challenges of today. AMEN

Pastor’s Thoughts 9-7,2024-Sept. 17-2024

Challenges are inevitable…but with faith…nothing is impossible.

Keep believing…even when the road is tough.

God is not just a God of second chances…He’s the God of endless chances!!

I am so thankful for THAT!! ❤️

OUR HELP IN WEAKNESS: God has provided us with an inexhaustible source of strength.

“I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.” John 14:16-17

Following the Last Supper, Jesus took time to teach the disciples more about His mission and what would happen after He left the earth. He knew their darkest times were ahead. So in today’s passage, He promised a Helper who would stand alongside them in the coming trials.

We often face life with a stiff upper lip, trusting our own abilities to get us through. Choosing to follow the Lord, however, involves a totally different mindset: We’re weaker than we could have imagined…but through the Holy Spirit…we are stronger than we dared to hope.

Whether our struggle is spiritual, emotional, or physical…we can rely on the Holy Spirit to help us. Paul shows us what this looks like. The apostle prayed that the Lord would take away what he referred to as a “thorn in the flesh.” Instead, God said His power would be “perfected in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9).

Too many Christians operate under the misconception that God helps us only when we have gone as far as we can go. In reality, His Spirit doesn’t simply add to our strength…rather, He is its inexhaustible source!

When we admit we are powerless to help ourselves, the Holy Spirit gives us the strength we need to face any challenge…with absolute confidence in God! ❤️

—Charles Stanley

2 Corinthians 9:8: “And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”

This verse reassures us of God’s limitless ability to provide for us in every circumstance. Paul emphasizes that God’s blessings are not just sufficient…but abundant and overflowing…to meet our needs and empower us to serve others. This is a reminder that God’s provision is comprehensive—covering all aspects of our lives…and it equips us to carry out His will. The phrase “in all things at all times” highlights the constancy and reliability of God’s provision. Whether we are in seasons of plenty or in times of need, God’s grace is sufficient. His blessings are not limited to material wealth but encompass spiritual strength, wisdom, peace, and everything necessary to live a life that honors Him. When we trust in God’s ability to provide…we are freed from the anxiety of self-reliance…knowing that He will always supply what we need to fulfill the purpose He has set before us.

As we go through this day, let’s hold onto the truth that God’s blessings enable us to “abound in every good work.” The resources God provides are not meant to be hoarded…but to be used for His glory and the benefit of others. This abundance is given so that we might be a blessing, reflecting God’s generosity in our actions and attitudes. Let’s approach each task and interaction with the confidence that God has equipped us for every good work.

Today, may we be channels of His grace…using the blessings He has given us to make a positive impact in the lives of those around us. —Cathy C. Charles

Remember….you’ve got the upper hand because the hand of God is on your life!!

The hand of God represents the plan and provision of God, The hand of God is mighty, The hand of God is strong, The hand of God is guiding you, and anything you put in His hand will multiply. —Steven Furtick

OUR SOURCE OF COMFORT: God sent His Spirit to live inside every believer, and He’s always available to help us.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For just as the sufferings of Christ are ours in abundance, so also our comfort is abundant through Christ. But if we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; or if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which is effective in the patient enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer; and our hope for you is firmly grounded, knowing that as you are sharers of our sufferings, so also you are sharers of our comfort.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-7

The world’s definition of comfort is the alleviation of suffering or despair. However, God has a different view: It’s a teaching tool. Because we mature spiritually when we exercise faith, our Father doesn’t remove our troubles but instead gives us the encouragement and strength to work through them.

God sent His Spirit to dwell within everyone who believes, and in that way, our source of help is as close as our own beating heart. When we face affliction and feel as if we can’t bear it,…He whispers into our soul, “Yes, you can, because I am here.” There is no healing balm like the voice of God’s Spirit.

In some circumstances, the Spirit directs our mind to a Bible passage. Reading God’s Word is a way to hear directly from Him. A scripture’s personal meaning and application may not be apparent immediately, but God will bring the verse to mind at the time it’s most needed.

When we receive Christ, we are sealed as God’s child. The Lord promises us, “I will never desert you, nor will I ever abandon you” (Hebrews 13:5). He will walk beside us in every trial—and since He is omnipresent…He’s always available to help and comfort us! ❤️–Charles Stanley

RIGHT WHERE HE WANTS US: Genesis 39:20-22″But while Joseph was there in the prison, the Lord was with him; He showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden. So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there.”

It’s safe to say that all of us, at different times during our walk with the Lord, feel like we have been sent far away and locked up. We feel distanced from God and unable to change our circumstances. Others seem to be controlling our every move and we sink into a deep despair.

But is it possible God is much closer than we think? “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).

Is it possible He is working (even now!) this terrible situation toward the good? “In all things God works for the good of those who love Him” (Romans 8:28).

And is it possible that in the middle of our “prison” God has much work for us to do?

While in jail, Joseph interpreted dreams for Pharaoh’s officials (Genesis 40) and was then called to interpret a dream for Pharaoh; “I’ve heard it said of you that when you hear a dream you can interpret it” (Genesis 41:15). Joseph interpreted Pharaoh’s dream and was placed in a position of great responsibility; “You shall be in charge of my palace, and all my people are to submit to your orders” (Genesis 41:40). It was God’s plan to place Joseph in control of the distribution of food, and therefore, to save many lives…including the lives of his father and brothers (Genesis 42-48).

No matter what this day brings – no matter how trapped we feel – we must keep looking for God’s good…and trusting that His plan is unfolding.

He is using our circumstances to mold us and draw us close to His side…and He is using our testimony of faith to encourage others to love Him more.

We must believe that…even in the middle of our prison…God is in control and we are right where He wants us! ❤️❤️—Steve Troxel

SALVATION SHOUT OF PRAISE…HE IS WORTHY!! ❤️
He RECEIVES us and DELIVERS us…based on who He is…and what He has already done!!

The gospel saves…and KEEPS saving us!!

Run TO HIM in the midst of our struggles…He wants It ALL…He wants us just as we are!!

Freedom is found only in JESUS!!

“May we be LIT UP WITH LOVE.. so others can receive the Light…and be rescued from the darkness” (Derwin Gray)

OUR DEFENSE: Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down.” Revelation 12:10

The devil is a liar. But that is not all. He is a defeated liar! Though he accuses us before God for our weakness and sin, Jesus answers on our behalf in an instant, “Father, forgive them.” Denied in heaven, the work of the accuser seeks to find a foothold among the fleshy ears of those who are vulnerable to criticize others in the Body of Christ. His words seek to be heard in the minds of those downcast and discouraged by failure in their own lives. But rejoice, beloved. “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1). The accuser has been defeated. Confess your sins and be healed, and reject the lying words of a defeated foe. Our debt has been paid. Our ransom is complete. Our shame has been covered by the grace of God.

Rejoice…the One who saves you is the same One who accepts you…and by the work of the Holy Spirit continues the process of His renewing work in you! ❤️ –Jack Hayford

Pastor’s Thoughts Aug. 4,2024-Aug 20-2024

An old saying goes, “When I don’t understand God’s hand, I can trust His heart.”

Someone once asked Mrs. Einstein, “Mrs. Einstein, do you understand your husband’s Theory of Relativity?” She said, “I do not understand the Professor’s Theory of Relativity, but I understand the Professor and that is all that matters.”

Many times, the best help is not the answer to the WHY but a WHO… not a REASON but a RELATIONSHIP… not a PRINCIPLE but a PERSON. There is nothing like the PERSON and PRESENCE of God…especially during perplexing times. I still believe the most dangerous prayer anyone can ever pray is, “God if you are real, show me.” “God is near the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18 —Michael Sprague

GOD KNOWS WHAT LIES AHEAD: “Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in Your book were all written The days that were ordained for me, When as yet there was not one of them.” Psalms 139:16

I closed my eyes in prayer as the pastor quoted this Scripture over my infant niece. I so anticipated God’s plan for her and how He would hold her hand and guide her through each day of her life. When she was eight years old, I held her as we wept over her father’s untimely death. As I held her, I realized that God’s promise was just as real then as it had been at her birth. To this day God had been ahead of both of us…and He already knew our need, our hurt, our anger and our doubts. He was still there holding our hands. What a comfort to know that while our future may sometimes look unclear at best…and futile at worst…God knows precisely what lies ahead. The disastrous things that come to us in life are the result of fallen humanity living on a broken planet. But through it all…God’s hand is still just as steady…and He will faithfully lead us. ❤️ –Jack Hayford

YOUR LIFE IS SACRED: Every hour of your life is a sacred gift from a God who loves you!

Every moment is packed with eternal possibilities. As one of God’s precious children…you live under the light of God’s smile…and you’re flanked by guardian angels. You have a reserved and secure place at the Table of Grace and home in heaven that will take your breath away

May you have the wisdom to number your days that you may gain a heart of wisdom. May you lift your gaze from what you can see so that you can envision what you cannot see…face-to-face fellowship with Jesus…life eternal…holy habitation…joy abundant…and laughter down to your toes. You will lack nothing…possess all things…and never have another insecure day as long as you live. As a born-again believer in Jesus Christ, that is your inheritance in Christ Jesus. Live like it’s true today! ❤️ Psalm 90:12 (NIV) Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. –Susie Larson

You are my hiding place; You will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.” Psalm 32:7 This verse speaks of the profound security and peace we find in God. In the midst of life’s challenges and difficulties, God is portrayed as a refuge…a place where we can find shelter and safety. David, the psalmist, acknowledges God as his “hiding place,” a source of protection and deliverance from all that threatens him. The imagery of God as a “hiding place” emphasizes His role as a safe haven where we can retreat from the dangers and pressures of the world. It’s a reminder that, in times of trouble, we can turn to God…who offers us not just physical safety but spiritual and emotional peace. This protection is not passive but active, as God surrounds us with “songs of deliverance.” These songs symbolize God’s victory over our trials…a celebration of His power to rescue and restore us. They also remind us that deliverance is not something we achieve on our own, but something God graciously provides. As we go through this day, let’s rest in the assurance that God is our hiding place. No matter what challenges we face…we can trust that He is with us…offering protection and surrounding us with His deliverance. This truth should inspire us to seek refuge in God continually, bringing our fears and anxieties to Him in prayer. Let’s also take time to reflect on the many ways God has delivered us in the past…allowing those “songs of deliverance” to fill our hearts with gratitude and confidence in His continued care. Today, may we walk in the peace and security that comes from knowing God is our protector and deliverer! ❤️ –Cathy C. Charles

WORSHIP THROUGH IT:

This looks impossible

But You’re the God of impossible

And I’ve seen Your faithfulness all over my life

I need a miracle

And You’re the God of miracles

Some way, somehow You come through every time

I know my God can do it

So, I’m gonna worship through it

Before I see my breakthrough

I’m gonna choose to praise You

I will sing hallelujah to the One

Who can do what the world says can’t be done

I know my God can do it

So, I’m gonna worship through it

In the middle of my no way out

In the middle of my don’t know how

I hear You whisper to me peace be still

This is why I believe

You will deliver me

You always have and You always will

You always have and You always will

I know my God can do it

So, I’m gonna worship through it

Before I see my breakthrough

I’m gonna choose to praise You

I will sing hallelujah to the One

Who can do what the world says can’t be done

I know my God can do it

So, I’m gonna worship through it

I won’t wait til the rocks cry out

I’m gonna praise You

I won’t wait till the walls come down

I’m gonna praise You

(Gonna) Lift my hands right here, right now

I’m gonna praise You

Oh God, I praise You!

I know my God can do it

So, I’m gonna worship through it

Before I see my breakthrough

I’m gonna choose to praise You

I will sing hallelujah to the One

Who can do what the world says can’t be done

I know my God can do it

So, I’m gonna worship through it

—lyrics from “Worship Through It” (Feat. Chris Brown) by Tasha Layton

How do we look at others? How do others look at us? The truth is we will never set our eyes on a human being that Jesus did not die for. We will never meet someone beyond the grace of God.  People are one humble prayer away from being our brothers or sisters in Christ. Let’s look at people like Jesus did…and really care.

Some empty person needs you today! ❤️

“For we know in part and we prophesy in part; but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away. When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known.” 1 Corinthians 13:9-12 God is good, and He’s in control of everything. But that does not mean bad things won’t happen. Thankfully, trials often drive people to the Lord. And for those of us who are already His followers…God uses difficult circumstances to mature our faith and conform us to His image. In His omniscience and wisdom, God will allow trials to touch our life so we can grow from the experience. Growth—whether in compassion, trust, or knowledge—is good. If we could peek behind the scenes of our circumstances, we’d see the Lord sovereignly working toward His ultimate purpose. Romans 8:28 affirms this: “God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” On occasion, we see immediate positive results from trials. But other times, we must wait months or years (or until heaven) to fully understand what God was doing. Suffering and evil are inevitable parts of a fallen world. But we have assurance that the Lord is in control of the universe…including the tiny corner we occupy. When He permits bad things to happen…we can be sure that He will continue to provide comfort and guidance as He shapes us into the people He wants us to be. ❤️ –Charles Stanley

2 Timothy 2:13: “If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot disown Himself.” This verse is a powerful reminder of God’s unchanging nature and steadfast love. Even in our moments of weakness, doubt, or failure…God’s faithfulness remains constant. His character is not dependent on our performance; rather, it is rooted in His very nature. This truth brings us immense hope, knowing that God’s faithfulness endures even when ours falters.

The phrase “He remains faithful” emphasizes that God’s faithfulness is an essential part of who He is. He is inherently faithful, and He cannot be anything else. This means that no matter how inconsistent we may be in our walk with Him, His promises and love for us remain secure. God does not abandon or forsake us when we struggle; instead, He patiently upholds us and continues to work in our lives. This is a profound expression of His grace, which we can rely on…even when we fall short.

As we step into this day, let us rest in the assurance of God’s unchanging faithfulness. When we face moments of doubt or feel overwhelmed by our own inadequacies…we can take refuge in the truth that God remains faithful. Let this knowledge encourage us to return to Him, no matter how far we may feel we have strayed. His arms are always open, ready to receive us with grace and love.

Today, may we walk in the confidence that our relationship with God is secure…not because of our own faithfulness…but because of His unwavering commitment to us! ❤️—Cathy C. Charles

DON’T THROW IN THE TOWEL: Perhaps the most memorable image of Hurricane Ike from September 2008 was the famous yellow house, the only house left standing in a neighborhood of Gilchrist, Texas. This little peaceful and serene seaside community of 200 homes was known for its colorful houses, sidewalks, beautiful landscaping and retirees. After Ike, it looked like a bomb exploded. There was nothing left to suggest there was civilization there except for one lone house that stood strong and defied the wind and the watery wrath of the storm. This was one house out of 200.

The owners were Warren and Pamela Adams. Warren was an electrical designer. He added additional fortifications to retrofit the house when the foundation was initially laid and the house was built in anticipation of the hurricanes of life. He hired an engineering company to oversee the contractors. In the end, it was shocking to see only one house standing, but the backstory of the faithfulness of the builder shines light on the ability to stand.

Such is the story of our lives. Jesus told the famous story of two men who built homes or should I say built their lives. Outwardly, both looked strong but it wasn’t until the storm came that the individual foundations were revealed. The exhortation from this story in the Sermon on the Mount was to build our homes/our lives upon the rock and not sinking sand. Jesus is that Rock.

All our homes/lives will have cracks and scars from the storms, struggles, and seasons of life. Yet, we will stay intact if built on Jesus, our firm foundation. As I like to say, we may shake upon the Rock, but the Rock will never shake under us.

Stay steady today in the storm my friends. God is faithful. He started a good work in you and will finish that work. He is able. He is a rescuer … sustainer … deliverer … keeper. Get to know who God is and who He says you are. Get to know His voice and be careful of the counterfeits of the enemy. Be less impressed with the famous and more impressed with the faithful. Abide in Jesus and don’t be afraid to speak His name and His deeds of faithfulness to you. ❤️

Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy, to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority before all time and now and forever. Amen. Jude 1:24-25—Michael Sprague

IT’S ALL ABOUT HIM: Moses gave every possible excuse to convince God He had made a wrong choice: “Who am I to go to Pharaoh?” (Exodus 3:11), “What if they do not believe me?” (Exodus 4:1), “I am slow of speech and tongue” (Exodus 4:10). God was patient with Moses, but finally He had enough.

Exodus 4:11-14 “The Lord said to him, ‘Who gave man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or mute? Who gives him sight or makes him blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.’ But Moses said, ‘O Lord, please send someone else to do it.’ Then the Lord’s anger burned against Moses.”

Moses would later be described as “more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth” (Numbers 12:2). But as he stood before God and received his initial assignment for battle, his “humility” was nothing more than a self-absorbed lack of faith. Moses looked at his own abilities and didn’t see how success was possible. He failed to see the Creator of the Universe who promised to walk by His side.

Our Christian walk is ALL about God working through us. OF COURSE our abilities will seem too small; of course the enemy will seem too big! The seemingly impossible steps are all part of His plan. Our Heavenly Father desires an intimate and passionate relationship built on absolute trust, so why would He ever lead us in a direction that did not require our complete dependence on Him? The assignment may seem impossible, but His call is our greatest assurance of victory; “If God be for us, who can be against us” (Romans 8:31).

When God is truly Lord of our life, it’s false humility to believe we cannot follow where He leads. Let’s allow His glory to so completely fill our vision that we can boldly follow because we KNOW…it’s all about Him! ❤️–Steve Troxel

“for we walk by faith, not by sight”2 Corinthians 5:7 This short yet powerful verse encapsulates a foundational principle of the Christian life. It reminds us that our journey with God is one of faith…trusting in His unseen promises and His guidance…rather than relying solely on our physical senses and worldly perceptions.   Living by faith means trusting in God’s character, His promises, and His plan for our lives…even when we cannot see the full picture. Our faith is grounded in the assurance of God’s unwavering love and His perfect wisdom. This kind of faith calls us to move beyond the tangible and visible…embracing the spiritual truths that God reveals to us through His Word and the Holy Spirit. It is a daily choice to place our confidence in what God has said…rather than what our circumstances might suggest.

As we navigate this new day, let us be encouraged to live by faith in every situation we encounter. Whether we face uncertainties, challenges, or blessings…our response should be rooted in our trust in God. This faith empowers us to step out in obedience, to take risks for the sake of the Gospel, and to find peace amidst life’s storms. As we live by faith and not by sight, we align ourselves with God’s greater purposes and experience the fullness of His presence and provision.

Let’s pray for the strength to trust Him more deeply and to walk confidently in the path He has set before us…knowing that He is faithful to guide and sustain us! ❤️

TRUST AND MOVE ON: As the Israelites approached the Red Sea, “Pharaoh and his officials changed their mind” (Exodus 14:5). Every chariot in Egypt was sent to bring the Israelites back. With no escape route in sight, and the Egyptian army closing in, the people cried out to God. Moses tried to calm the people, “The Lord will fight for you: you need only to be still” (Exodus 14:14). But being still was not in God’s plan.

Exodus 14:15-16: “Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Why are you crying out to Me? Tell the Israelites to move on. Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground.'”

We must diligently seek His will in stillness and prepare our life to follow where He leads; “be still and know that He is God” (Psalm 46:10). But we cannot allow our stillness to make us immobile: “Whoever watches the wind will not plant; whoever looks at the clouds will not reap” (Ecclesiastes 11:4). The conditions will never feel perfect, nor will we ever feel fully prepared; beware of a never-ending mission analysis which paralyzes us from action. In the end we must remember: “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31). There will always come a time when God expects us to demonstrate our faith in what He has provided. Let’s prepare for that time by drawing near and learning to trust in HIS ability. Let’s live with an active faith such that when we know His power…know His provision…and know His direction…we are able to trust and move on! ❤️ –Steve Troxel

Pastor’s Thoughts July 22-Aug 2

THE ARMOR OF PRAISE: “…to console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.”

Isaiah 61:3

Praise, as a garment, is more than a piece of clothing casually thrown over our shoulders. Praise wraps and covers us, leaving no openings through which hostile elements can penetrate. This garment of praise repels and replaces a heavy spirit. The message that Isaiah preached offers instruction and hope for those oppressed by fear or doubt. In the New Testament, Paul describes another garment that gives this same kind of protective covering (Eph. 6:10–18); he calls it armor. Yet the armor Paul advises us to wear offers us the same advantages…a covering, a protection, and a weapon. He exhorts us to “put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil” (v. 11). Let us do that today! Allow praise to become your armor. “Put on” this garment. A warm coat from our closet only resists the cold wind when it is “put on.” When distressed…be dressed—with praise! Act according to God’s Word! ❤️ –Jack Hayford

This is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.” 1 John 1:5.

This powerful declaration reveals the very nature of God — pure, holy, and utterly free from any form of darkness or sin. God’s light represents His truth, righteousness, and perfect goodness. In a world where darkness often seems pervasive…this assurance of God’s unblemished light…offers profound hope and clarity!

The imagery of light and darkness in this verse serves as a metaphor for the spiritual realities we encounter. Darkness symbolizes sin, evil, and ignorance…while light represents holiness, purity, and truth. By affirming that “God is light,” John emphasizes that God is the ultimate source of all that is good and true. There is no deceit, corruption, or evil in Him.

This understanding challenges us to walk in the light…to live in a manner that reflects God’s character…and to reject the darkness of sin. It calls us to a life of integrity, transparency, and moral clarity, grounded in our relationship with God.

As we start this new day, let us commit to living in the light of God’s presence. This involves not only avoiding sin…but actively seeking to embody the virtues and truths that reflect God’s nature. By walking in the light, we experience fellowship with Him and with one another…as the truth of His light guides our steps. Let us pray for the strength and courage to remain in His light, allowing it to illuminate our paths and drive away any shadows of doubt or fear. May our lives today be a testament to the transformative power of God’s light…bringing hope and clarity to a world in need of His truth. ❤️ —Cathy C. Charles

We all have a weakness for certain things…and it seems as if we just can’t resist these things. But, if we stop confessing our weakness and our inability to resist a thing…and start declaring God’s strength and the Power of the Holy Spirit working in us to help us to resist and to overcome that thing…we will get the victory over ALL these things.

God promises that HIS STRENGTH is made perfect in our weakness! God said, let the weak say I AM STRONG! God said, we are MORE THAN CONQUERORS!

We have to stop speaking according to how we feel…and start SAYING WHAT GOD SAYS. What we say today, are the seeds being planted and preparing what we will harvest in the days to come! ❤️”You shall also decree a thing, and it shall be established for you: and the light shall shine upon your ways.” Job 22:28

“No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.” Romans 8:37–Seed of Encouragement

NO OTHER NAME: Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12

In his book, Jesus: The Only Way to God, John Piper wrote, “It seems to me that the very people who have historically been the most joyfully and sacrificially aggressive in world evangelism are losing their nerve. In our shrinking, pluralistic world, the belief that Jesus is the only way of salvation is increasingly called arrogant and even hateful. In the face of this criticism, many shrink back from affirming the global necessity of knowing and believing in Jesus.”

The apostle Peter didn’t hesitate to proclaim to his critics that there was no salvation in anyone other than Jesus. Jesus said that no one could come to God except through Him (John 14:6). He alone is both God and human…born of a virgin…resurrected from the dead…ascended to heaven…and coming again. He alone is Savior! Keep John 14:6 and Acts 4:12 at the forefront of your mind…and don’t be intimidated in sharing this Good News with the world. Through Jesus Christ we can know God…experience peace…and enjoy eternal life! ❤️

–David Jeremiah “Jesus alone can offer eternal life because He is the only one who lived a sinless life and provided the perfect sacrifice for our sins by His death on the cross.”–Billy Graham

Time for a Thursday-afternoon Tune Up!! ❤️ “We must live our lives with a sense of urgency…in how we love…give to…and serve others. Our time here on earth is limited!” Will you make the most out of the time that is given to you? —Tim Tebow

“Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil.” Ephesians 5:15-16

Jesus Knows You Through and Through: Though most of the world has no clue what your call has cost you…Jesus does.

Though few know how valiantly you’ve marched onward, even with a broken heart…Jesus knows.

Though others may wrongly assess your struggles…Jesus sees you clearly, loves you dearly, and defends you fiercely.

One day God will vindicate you.

One day, He’ll fully restore you.

One day, He’ll claim you…bless you…and honor you before a watching world.

Though you have troubles in this world…you will overcome them all.

One day, Jesus will wipe away every tear.

One day, with a smile on His face…He’ll look you in the eye and make all things right. Though trials mark this journey, don’t give up hope…a bright future awaits you! ❤️

THE BEST IS YET TO COME!! ❤️

THE TRUE VINE: “For the vineyard of the Lord of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah are His pleasant plant.” Isaiah 5:7

Jesus used images from the Old Testament to demonstrate how He fulfilled God’s expectations for Israel. In Isaiah 5, Israel is pictured as a vineyard which God planted in expectation of bearing the fruit of “justice” and “righteousness”: “For the vineyard of the Lord of hosts is the house of Israel.” Sadly, the vineyard bore the fruit of “oppression” and “a cry for help” (verse 7). So God allowed His vineyard, Israel, to be uprooted and destroyed (verses 5-6).

But when Jesus came, He said, “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser” (John 15:1). Jesus came to bear good fruit…by being the True Vine of God…that Israel failed to bear. And not just good fruit in Himself…but for all who would believe in Him—the branches of the True Vine (John 15:1-8).

Jesus intends to bear His good fruit in and through us as we remain “attached” to Him. If we remain (abide) in Him and His words remain in us, we will bear the fruit that Jesus bore in His life and ministry (John 15:7). Abide in Jesus and His Word every day. By His Spirit, His life-giving fruit will manifest in your life! ❤️

(Galatians 5:22-23). –David Jeremiah “Fruit is evidence of the root.”–John Blanchard

“I have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist. Return to me, for I have redeemed you.” Isaiah 44:22 This verse encapsulates the heart of God’s mercy and forgiveness. Through the prophet Isaiah, God speaks to His people…reminding them of His gracious act of sweeping away their sins. Just as clouds and morning mist vanish with the rising sun, so God promises to remove our transgressions when we turn to Him in repentance and faith.

The imagery of clouds and mist is significant because it illustrates how temporary and insubstantial our sins become in the face of God’s redeeming love. Our offenses, no matter how great, cannot withstand the power of God’s forgiveness. This verse assures us that God’s desire is not to condemn…but to cleanse and restore. His redemption is complete and final, made possible through the work of Christ on the cross. By accepting this gift, we are invited into a renewed relationship with God…free from the burden of sin and guilt.

As we start this new day, let’s embrace the invitation to return to God…confident in His promise of redemption. No matter our past mistakes or the weight of our sins…we can come to Him and experience His cleansing grace. This assurance should fill us with hope and gratitude, motivating us to live in the freedom that comes from being forgiven and redeemed.

Let’s also be channels of this grace to others…extending the same forgiveness and love that we have received. Today, may we walk in the light of God’s forgiveness…rejoicing in the new life we have through His redemption!! ❤️

—Cathy C. Charles

ALWAYS REJOICE “Rejoice in the Lord always – and again I say, rejoice!” Philippians 4:4 Paul had been arrested and sent to Rome to await trial. He spent his days and nights under house arrest, chained to a Roman soldier, but was still able to say, rejoice…always! When we begin to understand the life changing gift of forgiveness through faith in the sacrifice of Jesus – when we truly grasp the concept of eternity and, through faith, believe we will spend all eternity in the presence of God – we have more than enough reason to rejoice…regardless of our present circumstances. We have more than enough reason…but do we rejoice? If we are unable to rejoice…we have allowed our eyes to become too fixed on the present. Our attention has become focused on our earthly desires, goals, and ambitions, and we have lost sight of the blessings of a life in Christ. Either that, or we don’t really believe! The verses which immediately follow Paul’s call to rejoice list some real benefits of a life of rejoicing. Philippians 4:5-7 “Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Gentleness and a lack of anxiety result from rejoicing in a risen Savior. If Jesus Christ can be raised from the dead and sit down “at the right hand of God” (Hebrews 10:12), then our Heavenly Father can certainly take care of problems with our job, health, kids, finances, or relationships – so rejoice! When we rejoice and focus on an eternity in Heaven and a Savior who walks by our side, our anxiety fades – our present trials become “light and momentary” (2 Corinthians 4:17). When we live a life filled with rejoicing, we are able to focus on the solutions we know God can provide. We develop a heart of thanksgiving – a heart which naturally presents everything to God in prayer and waits with grateful expectation for His reply. We begin to trust in God’s plan for our life and His desire for us to be with Him forever. The result, which admittedly takes time and patience, is “the peace of God which transcends all understanding.” These words written by Paul are not the deluded ramblings of an old man in Roman confinement…they are the true promises of God! They represent a promised life we all can live. Our Father offers us a life of gentleness, contentment, and peace; a life free of anxiety and worry. But this life can only happen if we love and trust Him with all our heart…and if we are determined to always rejoice! ❤️ –Steve Troxel

BE STRONG IN FAITH: Is it possible to experience healing and wholeness in a time of crisis and chaos? Yes.

Is it possible to gain ground in your walk of faith when the ground beneath you is shaking? Without a doubt.

Is it possible to better discern lies from truth in a day where truth seems to be up for grabs? Absolutely, it is.

When you are in Christ, Christ is in you! He’s given you His Holy Spirit that you might discern the things He’s freely made available to you (1 Cor.2.12). May we begin today to walk in, embrace, and participate in the divine nature imparted to us by God (2 Peter1:4). May we believe…with all our heart…that after we have suffered a while…God Himself will restore, strengthen, and establish us…because He will (1 Pet.5:10).  Let’s take our gaze off of our immediate problem, step back, and see through the storm. Picture Jesus walking our way, arms outstretched, inviting us to walk on the water with Him. Leave the wind and the waves to Him.

Entrust your troubles to Him…and grab hold of His hand. His strength will become your strength. His insights, your insights. Christ in you…your hope of glory!! ❤️

–Susie Larson

THE ABIDING PRESENCE:   Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory. 1 Peter 1:8   In His Upper Room sermon in John 13–17, Jesus prepared His disciples for His departure. They had enjoyed His physical, visual presence for three years, but now He was leaving them—by His death, resurrection, and ascension to heaven. He explained He was leaving in order to send His Spirit who would be with them and in them (John 14:17). Years later, Peter told his readers that we can still love, trust, and rejoice in Christ even if we don’t presently see Him. We have His Spirit…making Him real to us…and the Holy Spirit can be with every believer across the world at once. That’s why we must abide in Christ. We can enjoy His abiding presence by the indwelling Holy Spirit until that day when we see our Lord face to face. Today, ask the Lord to fill you with the Holy Spirit…and rejoice in His presence! ❤️ –David Jeremiah “The branch of the vine does not worry, toil, and rush here to seek for sunshine, and there to find rain. No; it rests in union and communion with the vine.” –J. Hudson Taylor

FIVE THINGS YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE TODAY

“Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not be afraid, for I am your God.

I will strengthen you, I will also help you,

I will also uphold you with My righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)

Five things you do not have to be:

1. Afraid … your ever-present God is with you.

2. Dismayed … the all-powerful God is your God.

3. Weak … your all-powerful and ever-present God strengthens you.

4. Helpless … your all-powerful and ever-present God helps you.

5. Downfallen … your all-powerful and ever-present God upholds you.

The 50th anniversary celebration of D-Day featured many former soldiers (in their seventies and eighties) who took part in the invasion. Some wore their half-century old uniforms. One telecast ran two back to back interviews on the beaches of Normandy. The first was with a soldier who fought the battle on the ground. “I was convinced there was no way we could possibly win,” he reported. The next interview was with a pilot, who saw a much wider view of the conflict. “I was convinced,” he said, “there was no way we could possibly lose.”

When we are caught in life’s crises and are told there’s no way we can possibly win…we need God’s aerial perspective and His voice that says, “There is no way you can possibly lose.” ❤️ —Michael Sprague

You have taken account of my wanderings; Put my tears in Your bottle. Are they not in Your book? Then my enemies will turn back in the day when I call; This I know, that God is for me.”

Psalms 56:8-9

In Psalm 56:8-9, we find solace in the comforting words of the Psalmist. In these verses, we are reminded of God’s tender care and compassion towards us, as He collects our tears in His bottle and records each one in His book. What a beautiful reminder that even in our moments of deepest sorrow or pain…God is intimately aware of our struggles…and is near to comfort and console us.

As we reflect on Psalm 56:8-9, let’s find reassurance in the knowledge that our tears are not unnoticed or forgotten by God. He collects them as precious treasures…cherishing each one as a testament to the depth of His love and concern for us. In times of adversity or uncertainty, may we take comfort in knowing that we serve a God who is intimately acquainted with our sorrows…and is ever-present to offer His unfailing love and support.

Let’s entrust our tears and burdens to the Lord, confident that He hears our cries and is faithful to bring comfort and healing to our wounded hearts. As we begin our day, may we draw strength from the assurance that our Heavenly Father is with us every step of the way, collecting our tears and working all things together for our good.

Let us rest in His loving embrace…and allow His peace to flood our souls…knowing that we are held securely in His unfailing love. ❤️❤️

Time for a Thursday-afternoon Tune-Up!! This is what the LORD says: Do not be afraid! Don’t be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but God’s. 2 Chronicles 20:15 The battle is not yours…it belongs to God. The battle belongs to God. The battle between your mind and your mantle belongs to God. The battle between your flesh and your spirit belongs to God. The battle between your past and your future belongs to God. The battle between the prophetic and the pathetic belongs to God. The battle between generational bondage and supernatural freedom belongs to God. The battle between your drama and your destiny belongs to God. STOP SAYING IT’S YOURS! Stop texting it’s yours. Stop posting it’s yours. Stop thinking it’s yours. It’s not yours. Stop claiming ownership of something that God never meant for you to own. You need to open up your mouth and say: If it is not holy….I do not want it. If it is not blessed….I do not need it. If it is not going to give God all of the glory….I don’t desire any part of it. Do not claim ownership over the curse….claim ownership over the blessings. Do not claim ownership of the problem….claim ownership of the promises. AMEN and HALLELUJAH ❤️

ENJOY YOUR FREEDOM

Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

John 8:36

The doors of the school burst open on the last day of school, and kids come pouring out, laughing with joy that school is out for three whole months. Freedom! Summer certainly represents a measure of freedom for everyone. Because school is out, families are free from carpools, homework, and other activities that regulate the school year calendar.

As glorious as the freedom of summer is, there is a greater freedom that lasts all year long and which is only found in the Son of God…the freedom from bondage to sin and the guilt of the law.

Just as children are freed from the regulations and policies of school for three months, Christians are freed from the regulations of the law forever. But liberty is not license. Being free from the law doesn’t mean we are free to indulge our sinful nature. Rather, we are free—by the power of the indwelling Spirit—to please God because we want to…not because we have to.

The Spirit writes God’s law on our heart, giving us a newfound freedom to please Him (Jeremiah 31:33).

Enjoy the freedom of the summer! Even more, enjoy the freedom granted by the Son of God by which you are “free indeed.” ❤️

TO SEE THE GLORY OF GOD’S PURPOSES

“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might”

Ephesians 1:18-19

The light of Christ provides hope, love, and power to overcome any darkness.

Even perfect vision is useless without light. But flip a switch, and everything suddenly becomes much clearer.

That’s what Paul’s getting at when he prays “that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened” (Eph. 1:18). It’s not a prayer for some kind of spiritual X-ray vision; rather, he’s asking that God enable the Ephesians to view everything they experience in the best light of all—His light.

What did they need to see? The scope and richness of salvation in Christ. First, it’s grounded in hope…something the Ephesians didn’t have before their encounter with Jesus. They’d been outside God’s kingdom…but as a result of His calling…they became His people. That reality transformed not only their future…but also their present.

Now, as God’s treasured people, they were no longer to rely on their own strength. With the King and kingdom resources at hand…believers had “boundless” divine power working for, in, and through them (v. 19).

It’s also a good reminder for us. Despite the world’s apparent darkness…we can live in the light, hope, and power of God’s good news. So let’s confidently join Paul in praying for a perspective illuminated by the gospel! ❤️

In Isaiah 46:9, we are reminded of the incomparable nature of our God. He declares, “I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me.” This profound truth serves as an anchor for our faith, reassuring us that we serve a God who is sovereign and unmatched in His power and authority.

As we confront the challenges and uncertainties of each new day, let us take refuge in the unchanging character of our God…knowing that He is greater than any obstacle we may face.

In times of fear and doubt, it can be easy to lose sight of God’s sovereignty and goodness. However, Isaiah’s words serve as a powerful reminder to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and lean not on our own understanding. Instead of allowing fear to dictate our thoughts and actions, let us choose to place our faith in God…who holds the future in His hands. When we surrender our fears to Him and trust in His unfailing love…we can experience a peace that transcends our circumstances.

Today, let us allow our faith to be bigger than our fear. As we meditate on the truth of Isaiah 46:9, may we be filled with confidence in the God who holds all things together.

Let us approach each new day with boldness and assurance, knowing that our God is faithful to His promises and will never leave us nor forsake us.

As we entrust our fears and worries to Him…He will guide us through every trial and lead us into His perfect peace. ❤️

STAND ON SOLID GROUND

The gospel message is one of hope which says, God loves us and has an ETERNAL plan for our life through faith in His Son Jesus. Without the hope of the gospel, we would continue to live a life of emptiness and an eternity separated from God.

But as we place our trust in Jesus for the forgiveness of our sin, He lifts us up, gives our life new meaning, and transforms us into a new creation through the power of His Spirit.

Psalm 40:1-2

“I waited patiently for the Lord; He turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.”

In our sinful nature, we all “have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way” (Isaiah 53:6). Our nature is to follow our own sinful desires and walk down paths which cause us to “fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Each of us have been firmly embedded in the mire of sin and none of us can climb out of the slimy pit with our own strength; we have no ability to build eternal hope!

But praise God that before the creation of the world He loved us and had a plan to bring us back to Himself, a plan to rescue us; “While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). The death and resurrection of Jesus allows us victory over sin and creates a way out of the mud; “If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9).

If we truly desire to be clean and live with hope and a new view of life, we must call out to Jesus and believe He is who He claimed to be – our Savior and Lord! If we will trust Him and cry out in faith, He has promised to hear our cry and lift us up. He will pour His cleansing love upon us and fill us with purpose! He will set our feet for all eternity upon Himself and we will forever stand on solid ground. ❤️—Steve Troxel

Psalm 91:1-2 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High Will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust!” —————————— We cannot lose when our focus is God. Rejoicing and giving of thanks inspires us to stand in the shadow of the Almighty. God has a shelter for His people and it’s under His shadow.  When we are in sweet communion with God we enter into this special place where nothing can penetrate.  This place has a door in which we enter and the door is a door of trust.  We commune with God as we trust in His protection…and as we have fellowship with Him. ❤️

Every little while, I will have some young, discouraged, follower of Jesus get to the end of themselves and admit, “I just cannot live this life. I cannot. It is overwhelming.” They are often shocked by my answer. I will tell them. “You are amazing. You have already picked up the whole secret of our faith. You are 20 years head of me. I wish I had learned this lesson at your age.”

The truth is WE CAN’T. WE CAN’T, HE CAN. It is not possible to live the life of God without the life of God. You can never be the person He wants you to be…until you realize you can never be the person He wants you to be. That is not double talk but reality. Only the Holy Spirit living in us can produce the Life of Christ through us… no matter if you are Billy Graham, Mother Teresa or the Apostle Paul.

Moses had 40 years of thinking he could do anything drilled into him in Egypt. It took 40 years in the wilderness to be broken of his utter self-dependence. Finally, at the burning bush, Moses was terrified and awed…yet commissioned for his real calling. The burning bush was telling the truth that any bush will do…if God is in the bush.

We do not do things for God as much as God is the One doing things through us. Only He can make the good stuff happen. Only He can make it work. I wish I had learned this much earlier…any bush will do…if God is in the bush. He can use bushes, big fish, shepherds, donkeys, fisherman…and even you and me…as long as HE is in it.

This truth is so beautifully put in Galatians 2:20, “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

Bushes still burn. Are you listening today? ❤️
