Pastor’s Thoughts Jan3 thru Jan18 2025

STAND FIRM: Sometimes things “feel true” that aren’t actually true.

When you’ve struggled long in a particular area of life, it’s tempting to believe that you’re just circling the same mountain. But as you follow Jesus, He’ll faithfully lead you up the mountain.

When old hurts surface and you wonder if you’ll ever heal…just remember this…you’re still standing, and you’re not the person you once were. God is in the process of redeeming your story.

When it feels like you’ve been held back, consider that maybe God has pulled you back like an arrow…so He can release you into your next place of promise.

The story we tell ourselves matters. How we frame our hardships is of utmost importance in how we fare in battle. As born again believers, we are a part of the conquering army of the Most-High God. The devil will not have the last say. In fact, his ultimate defeat is certain…and it’s only a matter of time. Let’s have the courage to press on…in Jesus’ Name…PRESS ON! ❤️

James 1:12: “Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.” –Susie Larson

NO SHORTCUTS: One day, when we stand with our Heavenly Father, we will see the awesome purpose in the path we have traveled. If we continue to trust and follow His leading, we will see how each twist and turn in His path was designed to navigate us through the jungle and keep us moving toward a closer relationship: “As for God, His way is perfect; the Word of the Lord is flawless” (Psalm 18:30). His way is perfect and without flaw; but, by God’s sovereign will, we are given the freedom to choose whether to follow. Many times we see what appears to be a shorter route, and we leave His path. These perceived shortcuts are filled with weeds that entangle us and slow our walk with Christ to a pathetic crawl; “But the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful” (Matthew 13:22). All our time spent away from God’s path clearly hinders our relationship and diminishes our ability to produce anything of lasting value for the Lord.

Psalm 1:1-3: “Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His Law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither.” To remain on God’s path and continue to bear good and lasting fruit, we must be wise regarding the counsel we seek. Many people willingly give advice on following a “successful” path and yet ridicule any path directed by God. This counsel must be avoided since the very definition of success is in error! A truly successful path IS the path directed by God!! Staying free of the weeds requires an active pursuit of God; “on His Law he meditates day and night.” If we do not consume ourselves with the ways of God, we will, by default, become consumed by the ways of the world. Jesus made a similar statement to His disciples: “I am the vine, you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit” (John 15:5). Remaining in the vine is a process of clinging to Christ and loving Him with ALL our heart. Our life then becomes defined and consumed by the life of the vine. As we allow God’s Word to flow through our life – as we become planted by the stream of His water – we develop deep roots. These roots become a solid anchor which will not be pulled up during the storm nor dragged along by the swift currents of temptation. God’s path is perfect and His burden is light; but remaining on His path and staying free of weeds requires commitment, perseverance, discipline…and a strong reminder that there are NO shortcuts! ❤️ —Steve Troxel

2 Timothy 1:7: “For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline.” Fear has a way of creeping into our lives, whether through uncertainty about the future, challenges in relationships, or doubts about our own abilities. In 2 Timothy 1:7, Paul reminds Timothy—and us—that fear does not come from God. Instead, God equips us with three divine gifts: power, love, and a sound mind. These gifts are not dependent on our circumstances…but flow directly from the Holy Spirit dwelling within us…empowering us to live courageously and faithfully. The mention of “power” speaks to the strength we have through God to face life’s difficulties. “Love” calls us to respond to others with compassion and selflessness, even in moments of fear or frustration. Finally, “a sound mind” reminds us that God provides clarity, self-control, and wisdom…helping us navigate challenges with faith rather than anxiety.  This verse challenges us to step out of fear and embrace the identity God has given us—bold, loving, and grounded in His truth! ❤️

Prayer: Lord, thank You for reminding me that fear is not from You. Help me to walk in the power, love, and sound mind You have given me. Teach me to trust Your presence in my life and to face every challenge with courage and grace. May my life reflect Your strength and love to those around me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.—Cathy C. Charles

Following God’s Will: A Lesson from the Garden of Gethsemane: In one of the most powerful moments in Scripture, Jesus teaches us what it truly means to surrender to God’s will. In the Garden of Gethsemane, as He faced unimaginable pain, He prayed: “Not my will, but yours be done” (Luke 22:42). This act of submission wasn’t easy—it came with deep anguish and personal sacrifice. Yet Jesus trusted the Father’s plan, showing us that following God’s will requires humility, faith, and courage. We’re often faced with moments when our desires clash with God’s direction. Following His will may feel uncomfortable or uncertain, but it leads to greater purpose and fulfillment. Jesus’ prayer is a model for us all: aligning our hearts with God’s plan, even when it comes at a cost, knowing that His ways are always higher (Isaiah 55:8-9). As we seek to follow God’s will in our lives, let this truth guide us: True freedom and purpose come when we surrender our plans to God’s perfect purpose. The question is, do you trust in God’s will for your life? ❤️—Liz Nova “The safest place to be…is in the willing God”

THE LIGHT WILL BREAK IN: God makes all things new! One day…   He will restore all things. He will redeem every aspect of your story. He will once-and-for-all renew your strength and revive your heart. He will give you a new body that will not decay…health that will never diminish…and joy that continually overflows! That day is coming. But even now, He is working on your behalf! Are you looking for Him? He’s moving in your midst, tending to prayers you prayed some time ago. Are you listening? He speaks words of wisdom and revelation to those who revere Him. Do you believe He’s more powerful than the enemy of your soul? He intends to restore what the enemy has stolen. May faith rise up this very hour! May you embrace a joyful heart…not because of what your eyes see…but because of what your heart knows — that God is good…He is for you…and He will not fail you. He is mighty to save and He has set His affection on YOU! ❤️                                                                         Revelation 21:5-7 “And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” And He *said, “Write, for these words are faithful and true.” Then He said to me, “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost. He who overcomes will inherit these things, and I will be his God and he will be My son.”–Susie Larson

GUIDANCE: Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.Psalm 119:105
All of us are too inexperienced to try to make it through life without a guide. God’s Word is that guide. Psalm 119 unfolds many of the features of God’s Word…showing how dynamically and practically it will assist us in all of life’s circumstances. However, no single verse clearly illustrates this more than verse 105…which shows how God’s Word lights the way…giving direction for each step (“to my feet”) and giving wisdom for long-range plans (“to my path”).

Joshua links the regular application of God’s Word to life as the most certain way to both success and prosperity in living (Josh. 1:8). Further, Psalm 119:130 notes the wisdom God’s Word gives to the “simple,” reminding us not to make decisions based on humanistic ideas or senselessness. Proverbs 6:23 reminds us that the reproofs of God are essential for our lives.

Let God’s Word guide, correct, instruct, lead, teach, and confirm. Do not hasten ahead without it! ❤️–Jack Hayford “If we are to obtain fullness of power in life and service, we must feed upon the Word of God. There is no other food so strengthening.”–Billy Graham

WE ALL FACE BATTLES—AND WE ALL NEED HOPE: In life, everyone carries their own unseen struggles—challenges at work, pressures at home, or battles within the heart. It’s easy to feel isolated, as if no one else truly understands what we’re going through. But the truth is…none of us are alone in facing difficulties. In John 16:33, Jesus said, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” This is a reminder that while challenges are inevitable…we are never without hope. Jesus, who has already conquered the greatest battles, offers peace, strength, and rest for our souls. What does this mean for us? Victory is possible: The struggles you face today don’t define you. With God, you have the strength to overcome and grow through every challenge. Let’s be people who share hope and encouragement…not just in words…but in action! As we navigate our personal and professional lives, let’s anchor ourselves in the truth that we don’t walk this journey alone—Jesus is with us, every step of the way. The question is…do you find strength in Jesus when facing life’s battles?—Liz Nova “Remember that everyone you meet has their own battles. None of us have it all together. We all need Jesus. We are all a work in progress. KEEP GOING!”

DON’T FORGET: Don’t forget the moment God changed your life. Don’t forget the moment He challenged you to join the fight. Don’t forget that you have a specific role to play in bringing Faith, Hope and Love to a world in need. May you challenge others to remember…and not only remember…but to act, pray, serve, and give. May you challenge them to take whatever skills and resources God has provided and use them to meet the needs of others. May we each remember that He loved us first…and equipped and called us to love others! NEVER FORGET THE MOMENT…GOD CHANGED YOUR LIFE! ❤️—Tim Tebow Foundation

FIX YOUR EYES ON JESUS: “O our God, will You not judge them? For we are powerless before this great multitude who are coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are on You.”” 2 Chronicles 20:12 Take time to worship the Lord…ESPECIALLY…when it feels like overwhelming odds are against you. Do what King Jehoshaphat did when his enemies joined forces and amassed a formidable army to destroy Israel. In the natural, Jehoshaphat knew Israel had no chance of winning the battle. But he chose to do something you and I need to learn to do whenever we are besieged by our enemies. He cried out to the Lord, saying, “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you” (2 Chron. 20:12 NIV). Jehoshaphat then placed not commandos but worshipers at the head of his army, and this is what they sang: “Give thanks to the LORD, for his love endures forever” (2 Chron. 20:21 NIV). Instead of despairing because of their enemies, they chose to fix their eyes on the Lord, giving thanks to Him and singing of His love. This happened long before the cross of Jesus. How much more can you and I sing of His love, which never fails, which endures forever! And do you know what happened? The Lord defeated Israel’s enemies by turning them against each other, and Jehoshaphat’s troops did not even have to lift a finger to fight. Instead, when they came to the place that was supposed to be their battleground, their enemies were already dead, and all they ended up doing was collecting so much plunder that it took them three days to collect it all. In Jesus’ name, may this happen to you too. When you are overwhelmed by challenges,…and you don’t know what to do or even how to feel…just cry out to the Lord and tell Him, “Lord, I don’t know what to do, but my eyes are on You.” That’s the most powerful posture you can take, with your eyes fixed not on your enemies…but on your Savior. As you focus on His love that endures forever, the Lord Himself will fight your battle for you (2 Chron. 20:15).                                                                                                                            May you be so conscious of His perfect love that every fear is driven from your life…and may you walk away so much stronger than before your enemies tried to come against you! ❤️—Joseph Prince

BE A LIGHT: Do you hear Him calling? God is actively at work IN YOU…so He can work through you! Are you listening? Do you hear His call for you to be His hands and feet today? Who can you help today? And don’t stop there…who else can you help? You might be the only reflection of Jesus that someone sees today. Let your actions and responses be filled with peace, love, joy, hope and grace…so those you meet you will see Jesus in you…and want to get to know HIM! ❤️ Colossians 3:17 NIV And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. —Rick Walters

THE GIANT IS YOUR OPPORTUNITY: When David faced Goliath, it wasn’t just a battle—it was an opportunity. To everyone else, Goliath was an obstacle too big to overcome. But to David, he was a giant too big to miss. David saw what others couldn’t: this was his chance to glorify God and demonstrate the power of faith. In life, giants show up in many forms—fear, doubt, challenges that seem insurmountable. But what if these giants are your opportunity? An opportunity to trust God…to grow…and to see His power work through you. Just like David, you’re not meant to face these challenges alone. The key is perspective. Don’t let the size of the giant intimidate you; instead…LET THE GREATNESS OF YOUR GOD INSPIRE YOU!! With faith, courage, and reliance on Him…the very thing that looks like defeat can become the stage for victory. What “giant” are you facing today? Remember, it’s not just a challenge—it’s your opportunity to step out in faith and see God move! ❤️“If God is for us, who can be against us?”Romans 8:31—Liz Nova “If God puts a Goliath in front of you…He must believe that there is a David inside of you.” Psalm 18:29 “For by You I can run upon a troop; And by my God I can leap over a wall.” David’s declaration in Psalm 18:29 is a powerful testimony to God’s enabling strength in the face of obstacles. The imagery of breaking through or climbing over a wall reflects the challenges and barriers that life often places in our paths—situations that seem insurmountable by human effort alone.                                                                                                                        David acknowledges that his victories are not due to his own strength but are made possible by God’s divine help. This verse invites us to reflect on the truth that God empowers His people to overcome challenges and fulfill His purposes in their lives. This verse shifts our understanding of obstacles. Instead of viewing them as barriers that defeat us…we can see them as opportunities for God’s power to be displayed. Through His help, walls that once seemed impossible to overcome…become stepping stones to greater faith and victory. Whether these walls represent personal struggles, fears, or external challenges, God’s strength enables us to press forward. Trusting in Him doesn’t just remove barriers…it equips us to face them with courage, perseverance…and the assurance that He is with us every step of the way! ❤️Prayer: Lord, thank You for being my strength and help in the face of life’s challenges. Teach me to trust in Your power and to see every obstacle as an opportunity for Your glory. Help me to rely on You, knowing that through Your help, I can overcome any barrier. May my life be a testimony of Your faithfulness and strength. In Jesus’ name, Amen.—Cathy C. Charles

PEACE: Great peace have those who love Your law, and nothing causes them to stumble. Psalm 119:165 Peace is the ever elusive, all-consuming desire of every person. It always seems just beyond our reach and an impossible goal in a world gone mad. Yet, this Scripture gives a promise for peace that can be easily realized by anyone. It says that if we love God’s Word, we will have peace. The word for “peace” used here is the well-known Hebrew word shalom. We tend to think of shalom merely as a simple greeting. It does, of course, mean peace, safety, and tranquility.  Yet, inherent in the meaning of the word is completeness, wholeness, health, prosperity, fullness, rest, and harmony.   Thus, peace is much more than the absence of war and conflict…it is the wholeness that the entire human race seeks. Where do we need the wholeness of God’s peace in our lives? As we fall in love with His Word, peace will naturally be the by-product! ❤️—Jack Hayford Thinking of you all this morning…and praying the following scriptures over you ❤️ “that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.” Ephesians 3:16-21

PASTOR’S THOUGHTS     12-15 thru12-31-24

YOUR SHEPHERD HOLDS YOU May peace flow like a river through the very depths of your being. May joy rise within you like the morning sun. God offers fresh mercies and real power for each new day. Lay hold of them. May God’s ever-present strength awaken your heart and sturdy your steps. May your faith grow until it swallows up your every fear. God is with you at the break of day. He will not fail you. Though darkness and despair and weakness threaten to overtake you…they will not…they cannot…because you belong to Jesus! Take refuge in Him. He is your stronghold…your high tower…your deliverer…and your defender. Believe that He is–even now–working on your behalf. He heals, reveals, corrects, and redirects. He’s your perfect shepherd and will lead you safely through the storm. Trust Him with your whole heart today! ❤️ Malachi 4:2 ““But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings; and you will go forth and skip about like calves from the stall.” –Susie Larson

ANSWER THE CHALLENGE: Why are so many “believers” content to live a life of mediocrity in Christ — a life partially devoted to following God and partially devoted to following the ways of the world? Without question, some have only put on the face of a Christian and have never given their heart to God through a saving faith in Jesus. But others are true believers in desperate need of a spiritual kick in the pants!

Paul’s letters comprise much of the New Testament. They were written to give instruction on the Christian faith and to encourage perseverance through times of testing. Paul often wrote of the simplicity of the gospel message; “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God” (Ephesians 2:8). But he also wrote to encourage those who truly put their faith in Jesus to live a life of service, holiness, and unity.

When we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we begin a new life. We are set free from the bondage of sin (Romans 6:22) and are called to follow Christ as we are conformed to His image (Romans 8:29). But Paul saw many believers sitting on the sidelines of the Christian life; “I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received” (Ephesians 4:1).

Paul gives encouragement by “urging” a life worthy of Salvation. This has nothing to do with earning our way to Heaven; rather, we are encouraged to live in holy thankfulness for the gift we have received. The word Paul uses for urge can also be translated as beseech, beg, implore, exhort, or challenge. He’s not giving a gentle pat on the back which says, “You’re doing well, keep running a good race.” Rather, Paul is presenting a firm challenge to draw nearer to God and give our lives more fully to Him. Paul uses the same word in his letter to the Romans.

Romans 12:1

“Therefore, I urge {beg, implore, exhort, and challenge} you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship.”

We have been set free and made new! We are a new creation and CANNOT continue to walk with one foot on God’s path and the other being allowed to tiptoe along worldly desires. These simply have no place in the life of a worshipper of the One True God!

Today, we are being urged (challenged) to trust God more…to talk with Him more and seek His presence more diligently…to not get pulled away by the lies of the world! We are being challenged to love Him with ALL our heart, soul, mind and strength (Mark 12:30).

As we face this day with its multitude of struggles…let’s live a life worthy of the calling we have received and forevermore answer the challenge! ❤️—Steve Troxel

“O satisfy us in the morning with Your lovingkindness, That we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.”

Psalms 90:14

Psalm 90:14 is a heartfelt prayer for God’s mercy and satisfaction. Moses, the psalmist, pleads with God to fill the hearts of His people with His unfailing love early in the day so they may live with joy and gladness throughout their lives. This verse reminds us that true satisfaction does not come from earthly pursuits or temporary pleasures…but from experiencing God’s steadfast love. Only His mercy can fill the deep longing of our souls and give us lasting joy, regardless of our circumstances.

In daily life, it’s easy to chase satisfaction in the wrong places—our careers, relationships, material possessions, or achievements. Yet, these things often leave us feeling empty or striving for more. This verse calls us to start each day by seeking God’s presence…allowing His mercy to satisfy our hearts before we turn to anything else. When we begin our mornings with His love, it sets the tone for the rest of the day…enabling us to face challenges with joy and gratitude.

Today, let this prayer guide you: ask God to fill you with His love early…so your heart may be anchored in Him all day long. ❤️

Prayer:

Lord, satisfy my soul with Your unfailing love today. Teach me to seek You first, knowing that true joy and peace come from You alone. Fill my heart with Your mercy, and let it overflow into every aspect of my life. May I rejoice and be glad, trusting in Your faithfulness all my days. In Jesus’ name, Amen. —Cathy C. Charles

Worship is way more than music…worship is a lifestyle of gratitude! Let’s allow worship to be the echo that is paving the way for our lives. The only way we can do that is if we’ve seen the sacrifice of love. We know God paid the ultimate sacrifice for us. In response to that sacrifice, we can then echo back in our worship a proportionate response to what God has already done for us.

When we come to worship we are not worshiping based on the way our circumstances have played out…but instead, we are worshiping based on our view of who God is.

The enemy wants to reframe the character of God by our circumstances, and as soon as he does that our praise ends. He wants to put those circumstances in your view where all you can see is the negative instead of God.

Instead of letting our circumstances block us from God…let’s look at them through the character of God.

God knows our circumstances are not perfect. He knows we don’t have everything we need right now. But do we believe Him even though we don’t understand it all? Do we believe Him even though there is uncertainty and hardship in the equation?

Let’s step back from whatever is happening in our life and believe that God is bigger than whatever happened…and will bring us through whatever is to come! ❤️

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Jesus Christ.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

A King Like No Other:  “And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” Luke 1:33

From the time of Jesus’ conception, a stream of promise began to flow: a new government is coming to the souls of men! The issue was not political, but spiritual. Jesus Himself verifies this, when he says “My kingdom is not of this world” (John 18:36). But He is King, a king like no other. Look at the descriptions of His kingly role in God’s Word:• “The King eternal” (1 Tim. 1:17)— the endlessness and unchanging durability of His rule is declared.• “A king will reign in righteousness” (Is. 32:1)— His completely just, even-handed, considerate, and life-releasing method is forecast.• “King of peace” (Heb. 7:2)— as typified in Melchizedek and fulfilled through Jesus rising to His first throne, the cross, where He secured our peace (Eph. 2:14–18).• “King of the saints” and “King of kings” (Rev. 15:3; 19:16)—forever praised as our saving King and all of history’s ultimate Ruler! Take time today to reflect on our King and give Him praise! ❤️❤️ —Jack Hayford

GOD GOES THE DISTANCE WITH YOU: Don’t ever let the enemy say that if God was really with you, then your circumstances would be different.

When the situation seems to be eroding from under our feet, the enemy always arrives with the same speech: “If God really loved you, He would do something different for you. Your circumstances would be better right now.”

NO!!

God always loves you.

God is always for you.

God always has a plan.

In whatever situation you might be facing…God is always with you. He’s with you the entire time. And this changes your outlook to know that almighty God is in every circumstance with you.

We live on a broken planet. We’re in a fight for our lives in a dying world. And we follow a Savior who was crucified in the middle of it all.

Sometimes our circumstances don’t add up to the dream we have envisioned…but that never means God isn’t with us. Look at Hebrews 13:5, just one of the places where God promises, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

That truth alone — God never leaves us nor forsakes us — that’s a game changer! ❤️—Louie Giglio

THE INVASION OF GOD: Some 2000 years ago a great invasion took place in a daring raid by the forces of good into this old broken world. A staggering drama was playing out…the hinge of history…the Incarnation…God putting on flesh…the cosmic redemptive plan was in motion…and it was priceless even as it was so costly.

Many couldn’t see it…after all, there wasn’t an invading army or a ticker tape parade…but a tiny baby in the arms of two rural teenagers…a Messiah from Galilee of all places…Nazareth, no less…a carpenter’s kid…some judged Him demon possessed and raving mad…His family thought He was out of His mind…religious experts tried to trap Him and kill Him BUT…those with eyes filled with wonder and humility…even today…see that first Christmas with amazement and worship for this Jesus was that one and only one Solitary Life. As Dr. James Allan Francis put it in a sermon one time…

One Solitary Life: Here is a man who was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman. He grew up in another village. He worked in a carpenter shop until He was thirty. Then for three years He was an itinerant preacher.

He never owned a home. He never wrote a book. He never held an office. He never had a family. He never went to college. He never put His foot inside a big city. He never traveled two hundred miles from the place He was born. He never did one of the things that usually accompany greatness. He had no credentials but Himself…

While still a young man, the tide of popular opinion turned against Him. His friends ran away. One of them denied Him. He was turned over to His enemies. He went through the mockery of a trial. He was nailed upon a cross between two thieves. While He was dying His executioners gambled for the only piece of property He had on earth – His coat. When He was dead, He was laid in a borrowed grave through the pity of a friend.

Nineteen long centuries have come and gone, and today He is a centerpiece of the human race and leader of the column of progress.

I am far within the mark when I say that all the armies that ever marched…all the navies that were ever built…all the parliaments that ever sat…and all the kings that ever reigned…put together…have not affected the life of man upon this earth as powerfully as has that one solitary life. ❤️—Michael Sprague

Perfect time for a Friday afternoon FAITH BLAST!! 2 Corinthians 5:21 “He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” 2 Corinthians 5:21 is one of the most profound verses in Scripture, encapsulating the heart of the gospel. It tells of a divine exchange: Jesus, who was sinless, took upon Himself the weight of our sins so that we might become the righteousness of God. This act of substitution is the ultimate demonstration of God’s love and justice. Through Christ’s sacrifice, we are no longer defined by our sins but by His righteousness. This is not something we earn—it is a gift of grace, freely given to all who place their faith in Him. This truth changes how we see ourselves and others. Knowing that we are clothed in Christ’s righteousness allows us to live with confidence and humility. Confidence, because we are accepted by God…and humility, because it is all His work, not ours. When guilt or shame tries to creep into our hearts, we can cling to this verse…remembering that our standing before God is secure because of Jesus. Today, let this assurance guide our actions and interactions…reflecting the grace we have received and sharing it with others. ❤️ –Cathy C. Charles Remember…… SURRENDER equals FREEDOM and… FREEDOM equals PEACE!! ❤️

PRECIOUS IN GOD’S EYES “He who overcomes will thus be clothed in white garments; and I will not erase his name from the book of life, and I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.” Revelation 3:5 I want to show you an aspect of how God sees us today through a beautiful truth about the breastplate of the high priest of ancient Israel. Today, Jesus is our High Priest, and as we examine the breastplate, we see something powerful about the way the Lord sees His people. Notice in Exodus 39:8-14, that there are twelve stones on the high priest’s breastplate, and the names of the twelve tribes of Israel are engraved on the stones. For example, “Judah” is engraved on the sardius stone set in the first row, and “Gad” is engraved on the diamond set in the second row. The high priest of Israel: The names of the 12 tribes of Israel are engraved on 12 precious stones found on his breastplate. These twelve stones represent God’s people today. Notice how God depicts His people, you and me, as precious stones. He didn’t use common rocks and pebbles. He deliberately chose very costly, rare, and precious gems such as sapphire, topaz, emerald, amethyst, diamond, onyx, and jasper to represent you and me (Exod. 39:9–14). Also, of all the garments donned by the high priest, the breastplate is closest to the heart. This speaks of how much the Lord values us and His desire to keep us close to His heart. In His eyes, we are very costly, precious, and loved. Notice also that the names of the tribes of Israel were not merely written on the gems; they were engraved (Exod. 39:14). This means that once we become a believer in Jesus, our name is forever engraved in His Book of Life. If our name were only written, we might think that it could easily be erased or blotted out. But the truth is that Jesus has engraved our name on a precious stone, and He keeps it close to His heart. Can our name ever be blotted out of its place on God’s heart? Just look at what Jesus promises those who are born again: “He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels” (Rev. 3:5). Through Christ Jesus, we are overcomers, and in Christ Jesus, we are eternally secure. Rest in the assurance that your name will not be blotted out from the Book of Life. It will remain engraved on stone and close to God’s heart for all eternity! ❤️ —Joseph Prince That certainly deserves a shout of praise this morning!! 🎉🎉

LOSSES: I thought of these words after attending  the memorial service  for a 50-year-old friend.

Let me state the obvious — something is wrong in the world. It is broken and often brutal. A world like this tries to fry our souls. Loss, disappointment, injustice, and grief can cause our hearts to ache for something to be made right.

It is easy to deny…stuff or spiritualize away our losses…but toxic stuff leaks. Right? Wouldn’t it be healthier if we could name our losses one-by-one — even the hurts we do not want to talk about? Wouldn’t it be detoxifying if the losses could be grieved as we invite God’s healing grace into those inner places that are nicked, raw, bruised and bleeding? We must practice soul care.

Can you name your losses? Loss of a job, hope, fortune, or dream? Have newsfeeds eaten at your sanity? Has your health been in jeopardy or your aging parents’ sense of well-being? Have you been distanced from those you love? Is depression stealing the you from you? Are you scrambling to keep up with a whole new world that is, or you imagine is, rapidly changing? Does it seem like things will never be the same? We need to pay attention to our souls and be filled with God.

Name your losses. Do not silence yourself. Give yourself permission to feel. Your losses matter. Invite Jesus into everything that is messy. Invite His love…His presence…and His new mercies. Allow the Holy Spirit to speak and apply His deep healing salve. Invite Him into the inside. He is eager to come!

Do not neglect the hidden parts of your soul and your ungrieved griefs. You have two options…to come closer to God or move away from Him! ❤️

“Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. ”Psalm 30:5b —Michael Sprague

This message remains relevant for us today. It reminds us of the power and faithfulness of God in our own lives.

It encourages us to let go of the past…embrace the new things that God is doing…and trust in His ability to bring about positive change.

He is capable of making a way where there seems to be no way.

Trust in Him, faithfully pray and take the right actions. He will guide and show the way.

He can bring about new beginnings and fresh starts.

The question is…do you know God’s character?

He is loving, gracious and just. God knows exactly what He is doing! ❤️ —Liz Nova

Pastor’s Thoughts 11-25-2024-12-11-2024

GIVING JESUS FIRST PLACE:When the Lord is our priority, we can have His joy and strength while facing whatever life brings.

“For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

Philippians 2:9-11

When Christ has first place in our life, we will experience many blessings. These include . . .

—A Quiet Spirit.

As we turn our attention to the Lord and meditate on His Word, He “leads [us] beside quiet waters,” where we find rest for our soul (Psalm 23:2). A quieted heart and mind make us better able to discern what God is saying to us.

—A Stronger Faith.

Studying Scripture will enlarge our view of God and give us insight and direction. Our faith will grow as we follow His guidance and watch how He works on our behalf.

—A Purified Heart.

Like a mirror, the Bible reflects back to us who we truly are and reveals where we need to change. When we confess our sin, God promises to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).

—A Prepared Mind.

God wants to prepare us for the future—both the joyous times and the hard ones. Through the Holy Spirit’s ministry, we will be equipped for whatever life brings (2 Peter 1:3).

Paul’s life demonstrates what it means to give Jesus first place. Because he made Christ the Lord of his life (Galatians 2:20), the apostle knew joy amid trials and received the strength to face turmoil and difficulty.

These blessings will also be ours …when we give highest priority to our relationship with Jesus! ❤️—Charles Stanley

SPEAKING BOLDLY And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.  Acts 4:31 The Greek word for boldness, “parhesia,” means “outspoken, unreserved utterance, freedom of speech, frankness, candor, cheerful courage, the opposite of cowardice.” Here, it is divine enablement that comes to ordinary people exhibiting spiritual power and authority. Parhesia is not a human quality, but a result of being filled with the Holy Spirit.  Earlier in verse 29, the believers prayed, “Lord … grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word.” Be careful what you pray for, because that is what you are going to get! As they prayed the place was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. They all spoke with parhesia. Today there are people waiting for us to speak boldly…not the words of human comfort…but the powerful words of God that will set them free. Bound by sin, confused by meaningless lives, hopeless and unloved, the world around us cries out for someone to help them. Let us boldly proclaim Jesus…and demonstrate His all-powerful and all-loving concern for them. ❤️ —Jack Hayford

How Esther Obtained Favor When you know that you are greatly blessed, highly favored, and deeply loved, you don’t have to depend on your self-efforts. “Now when the turn of Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai who had taken her as his daughter, came to go in to the king, she did not request anything except what Hegai, the king’s eunuch who was in charge of the women, advised. And Esther found favor in the eyes of all who saw her.” (Esther 2:15) When King Ahasuerus was looking for a new queen, the most beautiful women in the land were all brought into the palace. All the women were given the opportunity to adorn themselves with whatever they desired from the women’s quarters before they were brought for an audience with the king. But when it was Esther’s turn, she “requested nothing but what Hegai the king’s eunuch, the custodian of the women, advised.” And look at the results: “Esther obtained favor in the sight of all who saw her,” and the king “loved Esther more than all the other women, and she obtained grace and favor in his sight more than all the virgins; so he set the royal crown upon her head and made her queen” (Esther 2:17) Esther did not rely on her own abilities but submitted herself to Hegai, the official who had been appointed by the king to oversee the women. There was so much wisdom and humility in her decision. She did not trust in her own efforts. While the women tried to outdo one another by relying on their own efforts, Esther wisely submitted to the one person who would know the king’s preferences best, and the results speak for themselves. This incident also demonstrates to us that Esther depended entirely upon the Lord’s unmerited favor. (When you depend entirely upon the Lord’s unmerited favor, you are trusting Him and in a position of rest.) Esther did not have to struggle. When she rested in the Lord and humbled herself, the Lord promoted her and exalted her above all the other beautiful women. God resists the proud and gives unmerited favor to the humble (1 Pet. 5:5). When you humble yourself and cease from your efforts to promote yourself, and depend on Jesus alone…the Lord Himself will be your promotion and increase. Like Esther, you will stand out in a crowd and obtain grace and favor with God and man. Do you know why the story of Esther is so important? Because Esther was promoted to become the queen, she was in a favored position to protect all the Jewish people in the kingdom from being killed. When the Lord promotes you…He gives you the influence to be a blessing to the people around you. There are no coincidences…only God-incidents. The Lord will bless you to be a blessing! ❤️ —Joseph Prince

A Special Thanksgiving Message From Billy Graham Let’s get on our knees humbly and thank God for the blessings He has given us, both material and spiritual. They have come from His hand. This year as we observe our season of thanksgiving…let us be grateful not only in word but also in deed. Let our gratitude find expression in a resolve to live a life more unselfish and more consecrated to Jesus Christ. When we sit around our tables laden with sumptuous delicacies…let’s not forget that nearly a billion people around the world will go to bed hungry. As we enjoy the comforts of our cozy homes…let’s not forget that great numbers have no homes to go to. When we step into our modern cars…let’s not forget that many people in the world cannot afford even a bicycle. As we go to our churches to thank God for material and spiritual blessings…let’s remember that millions have never heard the Gospel of salvation. Let’s remember the servants of God in many parts of the world who deprive themselves in order to take the Gospel to the multitudes who have not yet been reached with the message of Christ. Scripture teaches that the good things of this life are the gifts of God, and that He is the provider of all our blessings. James declares that “every good gift… is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights” (James 1:17, NKJV). Isaiah says that wisdom is the gift of God. The knowledge that builds our great scientific instruments is a gift from heaven. Even those favored with plenty should pray to have a blessing upon their provisions and to teach them their continued dependence upon God. The very prosperity that we know should lead us to repentance…and we should give humble thanks to God. Jesus said, “How hard it is for those who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God!” (Mark 10:24, NKJV). The Bible teaches that God delights in giving and that He gives even to His enemies. Men and women spread nets and snares for their enemies…but God spreads a table. The dew forms on the thistle as well as on the rose. The rain of God’s mercy falls upon the worst of people. God puts bread in the mouths that are opened against Him. God feeds millions…and they fight against Him. He gives them bread…and they give Him rebellion. Not only do the ungrateful millions forget His mercies…they abuse Him. The Lord said to Jeremiah, “When I had fed them to the full, then they committed adultery” (Jeremiah 5:7, NKJV). God gives people wisdom…and they serve the devil with it. He gives them strength…and they waste it in fornication. He gives them food to eat…and they lift up their heel against Him. They are like Absalom who, as soon as David his father had kissed him, plotted treason against him. All of God’s giving ought to drive us to thanksgiving. He is the Founder and Provider of all our blessings…and is entitled to all our acknowledgments. The Bible says that all the rivers come from the sea and there they return again. So all our gifts come from God…and to Him must all our praises return. We are told in Psalm 119:165 that peace is also the gift of God. He has a formula for peace. His formula is in the person of His Son, Jesus Christ, whom He has designated as Prince of Peace. The nations of this world have rejected the peace that God offers. They plan and build for war.. Yet there are millions of people around the world who do have peace at this moment…because they have found the secret of peace. They have peace in their hearts, as the Bible teaches: “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1, NKJV). He has sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to the cross as a demonstration of His love and mercy. He asks us to come to that cross in repentance of our sins and submission of our will to Him. He promises a peace treaty for all who will come by faith. Thanksgiving? YES!! Let’s get on our knees humbly and thank God for the blessings He has given us, both material and spiritual. They have come from His hand. Let’s not neglect to thank Him! ❤️❤️

“Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe;” Hebrews 12:28

Hebrews 12:28 reminds us of the unshakable nature of God’s kingdom…a kingdom that stands firm regardless of the shifting circumstances of the world. As believers, we are recipients of this eternal kingdom through the grace of God. This truth anchors us in hope and security, especially in a world filled with uncertainty and instability.

The author of Hebrews calls us to respond to this gift not with casual gratitude…but with reverence and godly fear—a deep respect for God’s holiness and majesty. Our worship and service should reflect a heart that understands the greatness of what we have received.

In daily life, we are often shaken by the pressures and challenges around us—uncertain finances, broken relationships, or a chaotic culture. But this verse reminds us that while everything earthly may shift and change…God’s kingdom remains steady. Knowing this, we are called to live lives that reflect the glory of God, serving Him with humility and devotion. Our gratitude for His unshakable kingdom should motivate us to honor Him in how we live, worship, and treat others.

Today, let this truth guide our heart: no matter what happens…we belong to a kingdom that cannot be moved! ❤️

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for the unshakable kingdom You have given us through Your grace. Help us to serve You with a heart full of gratitude and reverence. Teach us to trust in Your eternal promises, even when life feels uncertain. May our life be a reflection of Your kingdom’s stability, and may our worship bring glory to Your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen. —Cathy C. Charles

WHEN THE STORMS OF LIFE RAGE: God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1

Storms of life. You know them well. They overwhelm you. Wave after wave of relentless battering that knocks you off your feet till you don’t know which side is up. Till every ounce of energy is used up and you feel so weak, abandoned, and lonely. Perhaps you’re caught in one of life’s storms right now.

When the disciples of Jesus were out at sea, caught in a turbulent tempest and tossed by the waves, who came to them in their darkest hour? It was Jesus Himself (Matt. 14:22–33). Jesus came in style, walking on the raging waters. The loving Savior came to them at their exact point of need to rescue them.

What does this tell you? That He is above the storms. He walks above—He is greater than—every adversity and opposition that you may be facing right now…and He comes to you to rescue you!

With the billowing waves beneath His feet, His first words to His disciples were, “Don’t be afraid. Take courage. I am here!” (Matt. 14:27 NLT). What comfort those words must have brought to the disciples who were exhausted and shaking with fear for their lives.

When the storms of life rage…don’t go by what you see and hear all around you. Don’t go by your negative feelings and emotions. Live by the truth of God’s Word…which encourages you to “be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic . . . For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you” (Deut. 31:6 NLT).

Our God is a personal and loving God who is with you in your boat…right in the midst of the howling storm. He knows how to lead you to victory every time. He cannot fail you!! ❤️—Joseph Prince

Shh. LISTEN!Jesus speaks to us through His Word…through the inner nudges of the Holy Spirit…through others…and through everyday circumstances that the untrained ear might miss.

God Himself tells His people, “This is My Son! Listen to Him!” How much more of a charge do we need? Think about it. Those who cultivate a listening life and respond to what Jesus says—their lives will abound in fruit. They will walk in power…and they will continually enjoy fellowship with God. Scripture promises to the one who listens that they will receive even more revelation.

May our heart be in tune with His…and may we hear His voice more clearly in this Advent Season. ❤️

Psalm 116:9 NLT ~ And so I walk in the LORD’s presence as I live here on earth!

—Susie Larson

SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO STIR UP THE WATER: The religious leaders were conservative, highly trained experts who had memorized large swaths of the Old Testament. They got the PRINCIPLES but missed the PERSON. Jesus said to them, “You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify of me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life” (John 5:39-41).

Their Messiah was standing right smack in front of them, and yet they missed Him. They missed the PERSON. They got RELIGION but not the RELATIONSHIP.

Notice, all Scripture points to Jesus: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus… Psalms… all the way to Malachi. There are over three hundred specific PREDICTIONS about Jesus. There are all kinds of PICTURES of Jesus- people, objects or events that prefigure Him and His work. There is the very PRESENCE of Jesus in Old Testament appearances before His incarnation that many call Christophanies. Every page is alive with His PORTRAIT. When you get it, you become part of the FELLOWSHIP OF THE BURNING HEARTS like the two men on the road to Emmaus.

RULES. REGULATIONS. RELIGION. TRADITIONS. SYSTEMS. These are not life-giving in themselves. The same thing that happened to the Pharisees can happen today. We have our Christian concerts, cruises, music, schools, publishing houses, denominations, buildings, and love of religious life. Nothing is wrong with these things unless we miss the PERSON OF JESUS. May the wrecking ball come to anything that takes His place as we are ruined by Jesus and for Jesus. We cannot have the life of Christ without having the life of Christ. This is the Jesus-centered life.

As we study the Bible, we must make a “beeline” to Jesus. The great preacher Charles Spurgeon while teaching said he always made a “beeline” to Jesus and the cross. ❤️ –Michael Sprague

STAY FLEXIBLE AND FAITHFUL May Jesus give you the grit to persevere when your Promised Land depends on it. May He empower you with tenderness to forgive when relationships are strained. May you see those He’s given you to love with fresh eyes of compassion and grace. Believe that miracles still happen in our day…because they do. Refuse to turn inward and numb out just because something feels uncomfortable. You may be tempted to dig in your heels because risk feels too scary…but don’t do it. Be strong and humble. Stay flexible and faithful. There’s a time to stay firmly planted and a time to step into the unknown. Both require faith and trust. Your Good Shepherd will lead you on the best path for your life. Stay in step with Him! ❤️ —Susie Larson “I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you. Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous ones; And shout for joy, all you who are upright in heart.” Psalms 32:8, 11

“Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.”

(1 Thessalonians 5:24)

In 1 Thessalonians 5:24, Paul offers a powerful assurance about God’s character: He is faithful! The One who calls us into a relationship with Himself…who commissions us for His purposes…is the same One who ensures His promises will come to pass.

This verse reminds us that God’s faithfulness is not dependent on our abilities, strength, or circumstances…but is rooted in His unchanging nature. If He has called you to something—whether a task, a season of growth, or a walk of faith—He will provide what is necessary to accomplish it.

In our daily lives, we often face moments of doubt. We may question whether we are capable of fulfilling what God has called us to do, or we may grow weary in seasons of waiting. But this verse offers comfort and strength.

God DOES NOT abandon His plans or leave us to carry out His work on our own. His faithfulness guarantees that what He begins, He will complete (Philippians 1:6).

Whether you are navigating a new opportunity…enduring a trial…or pursuing a dream God placed on your heart, remember: He is with you every step of the way…and He will see it through! ❤️

–Cathy C. Charles

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for Your faithfulness and the assurance that You will complete what You have started in my life. Help me to trust in Your promises, even when I feel uncertain or inadequate. Strengthen my faith to rely on You, knowing that You will do what You have called me to do. May my life reflect Your faithfulness and bring glory to Your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“then the Lord your God will restore you from captivity, and have compassion on you, and will gather you again from all the peoples where the Lord your God has scattered you.”

Deuteronomy 30:3

Deuteronomy 30:3 is a promise of restoration and renewal, spoken to the Israelites as they prepared to enter the Promised Land. God, through Moses, assured His people that even if they turned away and faced the consequences of their disobedience…He would not abandon them. When they returned to Him with repentant hearts, He would gather them from their scattered places, turn their captivity, and restore them to His blessings. This verse reveals God’s unchanging compassion and His desire to restore His people to fellowship with Him…no matter how far they may have strayed.

In real life, we can relate to seasons where we feel distant from God due to our own choices or the challenges of life. It might feel as though we’ve wandered too far or that our circumstances are beyond repair. Yet, Deuteronomy 30:3 reminds us of God’s heart for restoration.

His love is steadfast…and His compassion knows no bounds. When we turn to Him…no matter where life has scattered us—whether it’s the wilderness of sin, sorrow, or shame—God is ready to gather us back into His presence and renew His blessings in our lives! ❤️

Prayer:

Gracious Father, thank You for Your compassion and faithfulness. When I feel distant or lost, help me to turn my heart back to You, trusting in Your promise to restore and renew. Gather me from the places where I’ve been scattered and bring me into the fullness of Your presence and blessings. Thank You for never giving up on me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

–Cathy C. Charles

In moments when life feels chilly and uncertain…remember that God’s love is the warmth that never fades. Wrap yourself in His comfort today.

“God‘s love is like a warm blanket on a cold day…it wraps around you, offering comfort and protection no matter what!” ❤️

TESTED BY PRAISE: The longer and closer we walk with God, the more we realize how He uses every opportunity to shape and mold us — to chip, file, and sand the rough edges — as we are gradually “conformed to the likeness of His Son” (Romans 8:29). This is His desire for everyone who trusts in Jesus for the forgiveness of sin.

We often learn through personal experience how our trials are used to teach us valuable lessons and refine us into Children of God with the character of Christ; “the testing of your faith develops perseverance” (James 1:3). Our trials teach us to persevere in the faith and to trust God with all our heart. But a more subtle refinement of our character occurs as we receive praise for who we are or for what we’ve accomplished.

Proverbs 27:21

“The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but man is tested by the praise he receives.”

This isn’t simply referring to how we verbally respond to a compliment; rather, it is the response of our heart which reveals our true belief and submission. God is the sovereign Creator and Lord of ALL! All our abilities and gifts were given by Him. He deserves ALL the praise and maintains the right to redirect us as He chooses. Our motivation must be our love for God and our desire to serve Him through all we do — it must never be driven by the praises of man.

The praise we receive from others is not an indication of God’s approval nor a valid measure of success. We take far too much ownership of accomplishments, and most often we simply forget the basic truths: “For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive?” (1 Corinthians 4:7). All we are is from God!

Every step of our journey must be established by God and accomplished in His strength. Every day there are those who refuse to turn to God because they fear the loss of status and praise; “they would not confess their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; for they loved praise from men more than praise from God” (John 12:42-43). And every day there are those who are diverted in their walk because of a gluttonous desire to feed their pride-filled ego. Unrestrained pride will always choke our relationship with Jesus.

As we are transformed, we WILL begin to accomplish His work; “we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works” (Ephesians 2:10). But as praises come for the work we accomplish, we must present them to God for His approval and guidance. He may return the praise as a Heavenly blessing, but He may also dismiss it as an unnecessary distraction and ask us to walk in a new direction. Either way, we must continue to serve with an obedient and loving heart.

Let’s continue to be transformed in every situation. Let’s be determined to never lose our focus as a result of being refined and tested by praise. ❤️—Steve Troxel

“Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” – James 1:26-27

James challenges us to reflect on the authenticity of our faith. He makes it clear that true religion isn’t about outward rituals or appearances but about a transformed life. One clear indicator of this transformation is the ability to control our speech. Harsh words, gossip, and unkind remarks reveal a heart that hasn’t fully submitted to Christ. A faith that doesn’t shape how we speak is empty and deceives no one but ourselves.

James also emphasizes that pure religion is active. Caring for the vulnerable—orphans, widows, and others in distress—demonstrates the love of God working through us. True faith is compassionate and sacrificial, mirroring the heart of our Heavenly Father.

Finally, James reminds us to remain untainted by the world. This means living a life of holiness, refusing to conform to sinful patterns, and staying rooted in God’s truth. Such a life not only honors God but also serves as a powerful testimony to others.

Life Application: Examine your words and actions this week. Are they consistent with your faith? Commit to showing God’s love through intentional acts of kindness and a life of holiness.

Prayer Points:

  1. Pray for wisdom and discipline to control your speech.
  2. Ask for opportunities to serve and support those in need.
  3. Pray for strength to live a life set apart for God’s glory.

Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen and called its name Ebenezer; for he said, “Till now the Lord has helped us.”

1 Samuel 7:12

You might recall the hymn, “The Lord hath helped me hitherto.” It was penned by Aemilie Juliane in 1699 and is based on the declaration of Samuel as recorded in the King James Bible that was first published in 1611.

“Hitherto!” Chances are you don’t use that word in everyday conversation. But you might say, “Till now … I still have all my teeth.” or “Till now … my children all keep in touch.” Not only does “till now” reflect on our past, but it also expresses hope that the blessings of the past will continue in the future. That’s what Samuel commemorated with a stone. He named it “Ebenezer,” a Hebrew word for “up until now.” It served as a reminder of the confidence God’s people have in the future, as they reflect on God’s grace in the past. Dave Ebeling Bloomington, IN

Dear Lord, graciously remind me that your grace is sufficient for me. Amen.

Reflect: What object(s) might serve as your Ebenezer as you recall God’s blessings, past, present, and future.

Read: 1 Samuel 7:1-14 and 2 Corinthians 12:1-10

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.” – James 1:22-25

It’s easy to hear Scripture and agree with it, yet fail to let it shape our lives. James urges us not to be passive hearers but active doers of the Word. The analogy of a mirror illustrates the futility of hearing without action. Just as it’s pointless to see your reflection and then walk away unchanged, it’s equally unproductive to study God’s Word without applying its truth.

God’s Word isn’t just a set of rules; it’s a “perfect law that gives freedom.” Obeying it aligns us with God’s design and brings genuine liberty. This freedom isn’t about doing whatever we want but about living in the fullness of God’s purpose. James promises that the one who both hears and obeys will be blessed, not just in eternity but in everyday life.

Life Application: Look into God’s Word daily, asking not only, “What does this say?” but also, “How should this change me?” Then, act on it.

Prayer Points:

  1. Pray for the discipline to regularly study and apply God’s Word.
  2. Ask for strength to live obediently, even when it’s challenging.

Pray for a heart that seeks God’s blessing through faithful action.

Pastor’s Thoughts 11-6,2024-11-19-2024

GOD’S FAITHFULNESS IN EVERY SEASON
Let’s reflect on the faithfulness of God that carries us through every season of life. Whether we are in times of abundance or walking through difficult wilderness seasons…God is always with us…providing for our needs and guiding our steps. His faithfulness does not change with our circumstances—He is constant, always working for our good and leading us toward His promises. In moments of uncertainty…we can trust that He knows our journey and is guiding us with love and care.

Deuteronomy 2:7 says, “The Lord your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over your journey through this vast wilderness. These forty years the Lord your God has been with you, and you have not lacked anything.” This verse recounts God’s provision and care for the Israelites as they wandered through the wilderness for forty years. Despite the difficulties they faced, God remained faithful, providing for their needs and guiding them each step of the way. The Israelites lacked nothing because God’s presence and provision were with them throughout their journey. It is a reminder that even in the wilderness seasons of our lives…God is faithful to meet every need and guide us to where He wants us to be.

As we go through today, let’s hold on to the truth that God sees and watches over our journey. Whether we are in a season of blessing or a season of struggle, we can trust that God is with us, providing what we need for each moment. We may not always see how God is working, but we can rest in the assurance that He is faithful and we lack nothing in His care.
Today, may we walk with gratitude and trust…knowing that God is with us every step of the way…leading us toward His promises with unfailing love! ❤️

BLESSED ASSURANCE!!

God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Genesis 1:27 We are uniquely created in the image and likeness of God, distinguishing us from all other earthly beings. We were made like Him so that we could be in relationship with Him. Jesus is the perfect image of God. “The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God” (Hebrews 1:3). To know Christ is to know God. Jesus shows us what God meant when He said, “Let Us make man in Our image.” The question is, do you have a relationship with Him? God bless you abundantly 🙏 ❤️ —Liz Nova I’M NOT SELF MADE…I’M GOD MADE!!

ATTITUDE OF ENCOURAGEMENT
EVERYONE needs encouragement. No matter how secure and confident someone may appear…everyone needs to be reassured, built up, and comforted. And we are all called to minister to one another, every day, with encouragement; "But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today" (Hebrews 3:13). Therefore, we are all called to meet one another's need for encouragement.
True encouragement requires us to be "others" oriented: "Consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others" (Philippians 2:3-4). We will never effectively encourage until we begin to look outside our own needs and intentionally examine the needs of others. And our encouragement of others will always be hindered unless we are genuinely excited by the new growth and health we see in others.
1 Thessalonians 2:11-12
"For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into His Kingdom and glory."
Our journey with the Lord actually begins long before our day of Salvation as He calls us and draws us to the cross; we would never even seek if He did not first call and soften our heart. This part of the journey (the part which leads us to His secure arms of Salvation) may last MANY years and require encouragement from many different people. But as we place our faith in Jesus for the forgiveness of sin and continue our journey (with all the many hills and valleys)…our walk is definitely much easier and enjoyable if we join with others and walk together.
Let's encourage one another with each wonderful step toward Heavenly glory. Let's be proud and excited for the accomplishments of others no matter how great or small. And let's refuse to become threatened when we witness others mature and grow - we are absolutely secure in the love of God (and we really don't want to be the only walker in His Family!). Let's turn our hearts outward and begin to minister with a compassionate, loving, and secure attitude of encouragement. ❤️

UPWARD & ONWARD
When relationships are strained and issues take centerstage...step back and remember this: we serve a God who means what He says and will do what He promised.
May you fear God, not man.
May God’s Word be your shining light...not the mob, the crowd, or the culture.
Refuse to get lost in the weeds of divisive debate. Hold fast to your convictions but walk in humility and exercise wisdom with every step you take.
May you cultivate such a rich and deep relationship with the Lord Jesus that you actually start to feel hopeful instead of hopeless.
May you acquire such a taste for His presence that people actually notice the twinkle in your eye.
May you grow so confident in His character that you learn to speak with power and pray with precision...and remember...you are a part of His Kingdom.
Let's walk and live as Jesus did. Upward and onward we go! ❤️

1 John 2:6 (NLT) ~ Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.
“The Lord your God is in your midst, A victorious warrior. He will exult over you with joy, He will be quiet in His love, He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.”
Zephaniah 3:17
In Zephaniah 3:17, we encounter a breathtaking image of God’s love and delight for His people. This verse reassures us that God is not a distant observer but is “in the midst” of us, …actively present and powerful. His might is not only to judge but to save, to lift us out of despair and into His embrace.

Imagine the Creator of the universe not only watching over us but rejoicing over us with joy…resting in His love for us…and even singing over us. This is a profound picture of God’s tender affection, a love that celebrates us as His children. In a world where we may often feel unseen or unappreciated…this truth offers profound comfort: we are cherished and celebrated by our mighty God.
Relating this to our daily lives, consider how many of us strive to earn approval from others…carrying the weight of perfectionism or the pressure to be “enough.” But in God’s presence, we are already enough! He doesn’t love us based on our performance…His love is steadfast, unchanging, and overflowing.
When we truly grasp that the Lord “rests in His love” for us, we can let go of the need to strive. We can rest, knowing that we are safe in His embrace and that His joy over us is constant.
Just as a parent finds joy in their child’s mere presence…God delights in you…not for what you do…but simply for who you are in Him! ❤️
Prayer:
Loving Father, thank You for being in my midst, mighty and near. Help me to rest in Your love, knowing that I am deeply cherished and celebrated by You. Teach me to find my identity not in the opinions of others but in the truth of Your love and joy over me. Let Your delight bring peace to my heart and strength to my spirit. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

HOW AMAZING IS THAT?!!
Hebrews 12:2
"Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."
Jesus endured more humiliation, disappointment, and pain than we can imagine. But the "joy" that allowed Him to endure the cross was the very reason He came to the world. He came to bring God's children back into a relationship with their Heavenly Father. The sacrifice of His death allowed a bridge from death to life. His joy was knowing that God's children would be able to come to Him and truly know Him; that they could talk with Him and worship Him; that they could sit in His presence and be comforted in His loving arms.
We are those children. We are the joy that allowed Him to "endure the cross." How much love is wrapped up in this deep sustaining joy? Enough love to walk with us through the hottest fires...enough love to carry us when we are weak...and enough love to NEVER let us go! "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5).
We all face various kinds of trials, but the One who "endured" continues to walk by our side today. He has given us Himself - a true joy which allows us to endure even as He endured. He has given us the joy of an eternity to worship in His throne room...an eternity to be comforted and praise His Holy Name! He has given us the joy of a love and an unequaled strength which this world cannot begin to understand!
We too can face our "cross" with great hope. We WILL endure any and all trials. We can and will endure because He is our joy! ❤️

“Through God we shall do valiantly, And it is He who will tread down our adversaries.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭60‬:‭12‬‬‬‬
Psalm 60:12 is a powerful reminder that our true strength comes from God alone. In a world filled with challenges, uncertainties, and even adversities that feel insurmountable...this verse calls us to rely not on our own might but on the Lord’s.
To “do valiantly” is to live courageously, with boldness and resilience, facing life’s battles not with fear but with faith. The psalmist assures us that our success, our victory over obstacles, does not rest in our own abilities...but in the God who fights for us. It is He who “treads down our enemies,” whether those enemies come in the form of external opposition...inner fears...or spiritual struggles.

In real life, we face countless situations that can feel like battles—a difficult relationship, a health crisis, a financial struggle, or a personal failure. In these moments, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or to depend solely on our own resources to overcome. But this verse reminds us to shift our perspective and place our trust in the One who is greater than any challenge we face. When we lean on God’s strength...we can move forward with confidence...knowing that we are not alone in the fight.
Our courage is rooted in His power...and our victory is assured by His faithful presence! ❤️Lord, thank You for being my strength and my shield. Teach me to rely on Your power in every battle I face and to trust that You are with me. Help me to live courageously, knowing that through You, I can do valiantly. May my faith rest not in my own abilities but in Your unfailing might. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

ENERGIZING
There’s a buzz that comes with living inside the will of God. It’s the helper’s high. It’s joy in serving Jesus. It’s energizing even if you get tired. In John 4, Jesus took His initial team on a little cross-cultural training trip to Samaria. At Jacob’s well, the boys encounter a Samaritan woman. One good look at her and they think, “Her, a divine appointment? You have to be kidding.” Why mess with the mission field on a mission trip, right? Besides, their stomachs are growling and it’s lunchtime.
The disciples go into town while Jesus has a spiritual feast with this lowly, empty lady whose soul longs for living water. Eventually the disciples return totally oblivious to the movement of God that is afoot, a harvest being picked. In the meantime, the disciples say, “‘Rabbi, eat.’ But He said to them, ‘I have food to eat that you do not know about.’ The disciples therefore were saying to one another, ‘No one brought Him anything to eat, did he?’” (John 4:31-34) Can’t you hear Jesus sighing right here? I’m guessing it’s Peter doing the talking. They don’t get it. Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to accomplish His work” (John 4:31-34).
Jesus was making a profound statement that went right over the disciples’ heads, and maybe yours and mine also. You could substitute the word “energy” for food. The right food gives energy. The right food is entering into the will of God. Jesus just had a 7-course meal.
What is your food? What makes you feel most alive? What gives you the highest buzz? Jesus says there is nothing like entering the redemptive drama...living the spiritual adventure through obeying God. It is the ride of a lifetime. It’s pure energy.”
Periodically, when speaking to a group, I’ll try to gauge whether they personally own these truths with a diagnostic question. “How many of you are in full-time service for Jesus Christ?” I ask. People look at me and the wheels start to turn mentally. The pastor and missionary types in the room immediately put up their hands, then a few committed laypeople. Many look confused about whether to raise their hands. Then I clarify: “I didn’t say how many of you are in full-time vocational Christian ministry, but how many of you are full-time for Jesus Christ?” People smile. The light comes on. Many more put their hands in the air.
I want to blow up the myth that only a few pastor types are full time for Jesus Christ. The day you trusted Christ, you got a full-time ministry contract for Jesus. You are “a plain clothes agent in the Jesus Revolution – the only revolution that will ultimately be successful.” Royal blood flows through your veins, and you have an inheritance that makes Bill Gates’ money look like petty cash.
You are a kingdom player...pulsating with the life of the Spirit. Fasten your seatbelts and live! ❤️

God is taking you places your résumé doesn't qualify you for...GET READY!!
Ponder today the reality that God sees you...loves you...and sings over you. He knows the state of things on the earth and He’s still on His throne. He sees mankind and He knows how it burdens your heart. When you pray, when you cry, and when you sigh…He’s near, closer than your next breath. He watches how you love your family and friends...how you pray for your enemies...and how you’re kind to strangers. All of these He receives as gifts of love, as offerings unto Him. He hears your prayers...moves on your faith...and one day your eyes will see all He’s been up to because you exist on the earth today. You are one of His most prized possessions! ❤️ Psalm 34:18 NLT ~ The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed --Susie Larson
"Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus." —Philippians 3:13-14
Paul's words are a vivid reminder that the Christian life is a journey, not a destination we reach in this life. He humbly acknowledges that he hasn't "arrived" but focuses on one essential principle: moving forward.
"Forgetting what is behind" doesn’t mean ignoring lessons from the past but choosing not to be shackled by failures or even past achievements. Fixating on yesterday can rob us of the energy we need to embrace God’s calling today.
Instead, Paul exhorts us to "strain toward what is ahead." This image of exertion evokes an athlete pushing toward the finish line, fully committed and undistracted. The "prize" is the ultimate reward of eternal life and fellowship with Christ—a reward worth every effort.
Are you holding on to past mistakes or glory days? Lay them at Jesus' feet. Look ahead with hope and determination, knowing that God equips you for the race He’s set before you.
Stay focused on the goal. It’s not perfection but progress in Christlikeness, fueled by His grace and empowered by His Spirit.
Prayer Points:
Ask God for the strength to release the past and embrace His future plans.
Pray for focus and perseverance in your spiritual journey.
Thank God for the eternal prize awaiting you in Christ Jesus.

Pastor’s Thoughts 10-2,2024-Oct. 15-2024

BE SELECTIVE!! “Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.” Philippians 4:8 What’s playing in our mind? What are we giving access to? We can’t think negative…and have a positive life. We can’t think sickness…and get well. We can’t think lack…and have abundance. The battle is taking place in our mind. Why are we letting destructive thoughts in? Why are we letting fear roam around? Why are we letting worry have free reign? Why are we allowing doubt to hold us back? We have complete control over what we let in. We can’t stop negative thoughts from coming and knocking on the door…but we don’t have to give them access. We must be selective of what we allow in. Let’s fill our mind with and meditate on these positive, hopeful, faith-filled thoughts today…. –God is restoring health to me. –As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. –My children will be mighty in the land. –I’m a masterpiece…one of a kind…made in the image of God…crowned with favor…wearing a robe of righteousness….fearfully and wonderfully made. “Father, thank You for giving us Your promises to meditate upon. Thank You that Your Word instructs us to think on things that are true and right, wholesome, pure, and of good report. We declare that we will be selective in the thoughts we allow in. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!” ❤️ —Richard Rivera WE ARE WHO HE SAYS WE ARE!!

A lawyer asked me this basic question: If Jesus was ordinary, plain and unimpressive in His physical appearance…why did big burly fisherman leave their nets and follow Him and business sharks in the marketplace leave their cash registers to follow Him? Great Question.

My answer…Who is the real Jesus?

No one is more surprising, baffling, rattling, frustrating, astonishing and compelling.

He was born some 20 centuries ago to an impoverished couple in an obscure part of the planet. He never traveled outside His region. He didn’t write a book. He didn’t have a home. The Romans didn’t consider Him significant enough to record His execution. Jesus stepped into a world with a rigid religious establishment, a pagan empire and political parties of all stripes. Normally at odds with each other, these powers conspired to take Jesus out.

Jesus had no political base. No army. No resources. No voting bloc. No secret service. No spin. No swords. His only weapons were a serving towel, a blood stained cross, an empty tomb, a bunch of scars and a handful of ragamuffins who didn’t start out too hot but ended up out-praying, out-thinking, out-serving and out-living everyone and turned the world upside down.

Jesus befuddled everyone in not fighting…but giving up his life. He didn’t get all bent out of shape every election cycle. He read God’s book more than the newspaper. He prayed more than he talked about praying. He built bridges rather than throw rocks. He blessed more than cursed. Love Him or hate Him…the truth is you can never be the same after an encounter with Jesus.

Jesus had the nerve to hang out with the wrong crowd and sketchy people…the lost, the lame, the irreligious and misfits flocked to Him. He blew people away by saying that tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the Kingdom of Heaven ahead of the religious leaders. Oh how He could tick off powerful people and the respectable folks always seemed threatened by Him. Jesus didn’t play by the rules…that is religious rules. In fact, He was the enemy of dead religion.

Jesus’ teaching drove people crazy. Think about it. He was always saying upside down stuff. If you want to find your life, you must lose it. If you want to live, you must die. Love your enemies. Up is down and down is up. Bear your cross and serve instead of be served. You couldn’t help but scratch your head…yet it seemed so life-giving.

His scandalous message is that the Shalom of God is available to every human being through Him. Amazing Grace is available to all. He didn’t come to start a religion…but to build a relationship. He offers the Grace Plan…not the Human Performance Plan. Jesus did for us what we could never do for ourselves. He is none other than the sin-substitute…the Savior…and the hope of mankind. His invitation is, “Follow me.” Wise men still seek Him.

I hope to inspire people of all backgrounds to consider, wonder, dialogue about and know the person, life and teaching of Jesus. ❤️

SPIRITUAL PREPARATION and CONSTANT READINESS

Matthew 25:4: “The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps.”

This verse comes from the parable of the ten virgins, where Jesus speaks about the importance of being spiritually prepared for His return. The wise virgins, in contrast to the foolish ones, made sure they had enough oil to keep their lamps burning throughout the night. This simple act of preparation symbolizes a heart that is continually filled with the Holy Spirit…living in anticipation and readiness for the return of Christ.

The “oil” in this parable represents our spiritual readiness—our faith, obedience, and relationship with God. Just as the wise virgins prepared ahead of time, we too are called to live in constant readiness…not only for Christ’s return…but also for the daily ways He moves and works in our lives. This means cultivating a life of prayer, studying the Word, and allowing the Holy Spirit to guide us. When we are filled with the oil of God’s presence, we are equipped to shine His light in a dark world and to stand firm in faith when challenges arise.

As we begin this day, let’s ask ourselves if we are spiritually prepared. Are our lamps full? Have we taken the time to nurture our relationship with God and invite the Holy Spirit to fill us afresh? Just as the wise virgins brought extra oil, we must make sure we are continuously seeking God’s presence and guidance…not just in moments of crisis…but every day.

May we live in a state of readiness, with hearts fully surrendered to God, so that when He calls, we are ready to respond. Let’s be wise…filled with the oil of the Spirit…and prepared for whatever God has planned for us today. ❤️

STAY READY…SO YOU DON’T HAVE TO GET READY!!

Proverbs 4:25 in the Message translation: “Keep your eyes straight ahead; ignore all sideshow distractions.” This verse encourages us to maintain a clear, purposeful focus on God’s path for our lives. In a world full of distractions, temptations, and pressures, it can be easy to lose sight of what truly matters—our relationship with God and His calling for us. The writer of Proverbs urges us to fix our gaze firmly on what lies ahead…pursuing God’s will with determination and undivided attention. Distractions often come in many forms: worries, temptations, the opinions of others, or even our own doubts. These “sideshow distractions” can easily pull us away from the life of faith and obedience that God has called us to. By keeping our eyes straight ahead, we are choosing to focus on what is eternal, what truly matters in the grand scope of God’s purpose. This kind of focus requires intentionality and discipline…as we actively turn away from things that pull our attention and devotion away from God. As we walk through today, let’s commit to keeping our eyes fixed on God and His plans for us. Whether we face trials, temptations, or distractions…let’s remember that our true goal is to live in alignment with God’s will…bringing glory to His name. By doing this, we can live with clarity, purpose, and peace, knowing that we are walking the path that God has laid out for us. Let’s trust in His guidance and resist the distractions…focusing on the race marked out for us with our eyes on Christ…the author and perfecter of our faith! ❤️ —Cathy C. Charles

HE MUST INCREASE

The less we trust ourselves…the more we trust God.

The more we decrease…the more He increases.

If we want to walk in God’s power, we must become increasingly acquainted with and rooted in His tender love for His people.

If you wonder if you’ve wandered…just look at the fruit. Are you feeling irritated, judgmental? Are you tempted to construct a case against someone because you’re anticipating an argument? Or are you growing in the grace and knowledge of Jesus?

Are you putting a higher priority on the peace of God? Are you becoming more and more convinced that the Savior not only goes before you…but He’s got your back too?

The more often we return to our First Love…the more we’ll be able to impart that love to a world so desperately in need.

Furthermore, knowing and walking in the intense love of God is one of our highest forms of spiritual warfare. Demons tremble when we operate in Holy Spirit-inspired love! ❤️

Psalm 139:5 NLT ~ You go before me and follow me. You place Your hand of blessing on my head.

BOLD PRAYERS! “There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the LORD listened to a human being.” Joshua 10:14 In Joshua 10, Joshua was winning a battle against five armies, but darkness was coming and the enemy would escape, so he prayed a bold prayer. He asked God to stop the sun in place. In the natural, there’s no possibility of this, but God created the solar system. He spoke the universe into existence. He can stop what He wants to stop and still cause it to work. The next verse simply says, “So the sun and the moon stood still until the Israelites defeated their enemies.” No big explanation for this amazing occurrence. God is not intimidated by bold prayers…and He’s not at a loss to figure out how to bring about His purpose. Stopping the sun was no big deal.  Are you praying bold prayers? Maybe not for the sun to stop, but how about for your child to do something awesome…for you to set a new standard for your family…for you to accomplish that dream that seems far out? God put the desire in you. Perhaps He’s just waiting for you to ask.  “Father, thank You for giving me every reason to believe You for above and beyond the natural. Thank You that nothing and no one is more powerful than You, and I can believe You for the extraordinary. I believe that You are going to show out in my life as You did with Joshua. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!” ❤️ —Richard Rivera

A DEFEATED ENEMY As Joshua led the Israelites out of the desert and into the promised land of Canaan, the first enemy they faced lived in the mighty walled city of Jericho. When spies were sent to Jericho to determine the enemy’s strength, Rahab told the spies, “all who live in this country are melting in fear because of you” (Joshua 2:9). Rahab said the people of Jericho had heard how God parted the Red Sea and how He had been with the Israelites in previous battles. Joshua 2:11 “When we heard of it, our hearts melted and everyone’s courage failed because of you, for the Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below.” God caused the walls of Jericho to collapse and allowed the Israelites to take the city, but the first enemy in the promised land was conquered long before the Israelite army even arrived. The people of Jericho knew of God’s miraculous power and were already defeated. The only thing necessary for victory was for the Israelites to show they were willing to walk in the strength God provided. God does not desire for us to remain in the desert. He has “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11). But to enter the promised land, we must be prepared to face our enemies and trust in the strength of our Heavenly Father. The enemy “prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8). This enemy is very real and ready to attack our areas of weakness. But the enemy is also well aware of God’s power and will turn away any time we make a stand; “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). The enemy’s fate has been sealed – his end has already been determined – but we must daily resist by getting dressed for battle and then trusting in the power of God for our strength. Let’s submit our lives into the loving hands of our Heavenly Father and boldly enter the peace-filled land He has promised. The lion will continue to roar and try to bite, but we must never forget that Jesus has already assured complete victory. When we trust Him with all our heart and daily walk in His strength…we truly face a defeated enemy! ❤️ –Steve Troxel

KING OF THE EARTH

“God reigns over the nations; God sits on His holy throne.”

Psalm 47:8

Our God is the ultimate conqueror of all kingdoms. He will be exalted among the nations. Though awesome in power…He is no tyrant. Therefore, all nations are summoned to welcome His reign with the clapping of hands and the shouting of victory and are invited to “sing praises with understanding” (Ps. 47:7) to the King of all the earth.

Our God conquers…to liberate.

He captures…to release.

He subdues…to free.

Personally or nationally, God is the only King who can truly set free. Because sin enslaves, its power must be broken by a greater power, which is the power of a righteous and holy God. Therefore, we “sing praises with understanding.” We recognize that “God reigns over the nations; God sits on His holy throne.” Only our God…whose throne is holy…is able to free individuals and nations from the tyranny of sin.

So let’s sing His praises with understanding. With the nations, let us clap our hands and shout to God with the voice of triumph!

He is our King! He is the King of all kings! ❤️🎉

“Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” — Ephesians 6:11

In life, we face many spiritual battles. Temptations, doubts, and fears constantly try to pull us away from the path God has called us to walk. But the good news is that God has not left us defenseless. He provides us with spiritual armor to stand firm against the enemy’s attacks.

The “armor of God” is a metaphor for the spiritual tools we need to protect ourselves. This armor includes truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, and the Word of God (Ephesians 6:14-17). Each piece of this armor strengthens us in specific ways, helping us to resist temptation, hold onto our faith, and proclaim the gospel with boldness.

Putting on the armor of God isn’t a one-time event but a daily practice. Every day, we need to renew our minds with God’s Word, pray for strength, and actively live out our faith. In a world full of spiritual warfare, we are called to be both alert and equipped, ready to stand against any schemes that seek to separate us from God.

Life Application:
Consider each day as an opportunity to equip yourself with God’s armor. Reflect on areas where you may be spiritually vulnerable and strengthen those areas through prayer and the Word.

Prayer Points:

  1. Lord, help me to daily put on Your armor to stand strong against spiritual attacks.
  2. Give me wisdom to recognize the enemy’s schemes and resist temptation.
  3. Strengthen my faith and equip me with Your truth and righteousness.

Return to Eden

“The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, the lion shall eat straw like the ox, and dust shall be the serpent’s food. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain,” says the Lord.
Isaiah 65:25

In the “kingdom” of Eden, peace prevailed. In fact, that peace existed both among humans and animals. There was apparently no hostility between humans and animals in Eden (Genesis 2:19-20); animals were not even part of the human diet (Genesis 1:29). But after sin entered the world, that peace disappeared as the rule in creation. Violence became the norm for both man and beast (Genesis 6:5-8).

But peace will return when the Prince of Peace rules the world: “For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea” (Isaiah 11:9). Natural enemies like wolves and lambs, leopards and goats, and lions and calves will exist harmoniously together. Even a child will play with a deadly snake (Isaiah 11:6-8). Just as peace was the norm in Eden, so peace will be the norm in Christ’s Kingdom on earth.

Until that day, let us fulfill our stewardship responsibilities towards God’s creatures that He has entrusted to us.

Everything we have is on loan from the Lord, entrusted to us for a while.
John MacArthur

“For we live by faith, not by sight.” — 2 Corinthians 5:7

As believers, we are called to live differently from the world. The natural tendency is to rely on what we can see, hear, and touch. We want concrete answers and tangible evidence before stepping forward. Yet, the life of faith demands a different perspective—one that trusts in God’s promises even when we can’t see the full picture.

Paul’s words to the Corinthians remind us that our lives should be anchored in faith. To “walk by faith” means trusting God in every situation, even when circumstances seem uncertain or overwhelming. It means believing that God is sovereign and His plans for us are good, even when our human eyes can’t perceive how things will work out.

In times of uncertainty, we must remember that God is faithful. His Word is a lamp to our feet, guiding us step by step (Psalm 119:105). We may not always see the full path ahead, but we can trust that God is with us, directing our way. Walking by faith requires daily surrender, letting go of our desire for control and allowing God to lead.

Life Application:
Is there an area of your life where you are struggling to trust God? Take a step of faith today, trusting in His wisdom and timing, even if you don’t have all the answers.

Prayer Points:

  1. Lord, help me to trust You in uncertain times and rely on Your guidance.
  2. Strengthen my faith when I am tempted to doubt or fear.
  3. Teach me to walk by faith daily, resting in Your promises.

DON’T FORGET YOUR VALUABLE!

I know, I know, you are worried about my grammar. You think the title should be “Don’t Forget, You’re (You ARE) Valuable,” right? Or, you might think my title should be “Don’t Forget Your ‘Valuables,’” not “Valuable!” Well, I wrote the title as it was meant to be written. For this devotion, the word needs to be VALUABLE. I meant to write that word in the singular because this lesson is talking about the ONE thing in your life that is the key to it all. In our lesson for today, an individual comes up to Jesus and asks the million-dollar question, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” That’s the big question; that’s the one that really matters. You see, the Bible talks about life as precious, purposeful, and eternal. Those three all go together. Jesus wants you to know that your life is eternal; you are not just here today and gone tomorrow. He wants you to know that you are precious to Him, that your life matters to Him.

That is exactly what Jesus was trying to show the rich young man in our reading.  Jesus offers him what He also offers to you and me today — Love, HIS LOVE, the eternal and lasting love of God in Jesus Christ, and a life that is purposeful and eternal because of what He has done for you on the cross and by His resurrection. When Jesus tells the man that he lacks “one thing,” He’s trying to get him to receive life, now and forever, as a gift from God. He’s leading him to see that a relationship with Jesus is the key to it all.

So, today, ask yourself questions like these: Is there anything getting in the way of knowing and receiving the one thing that is truly valuable for your life? Are the things of this temporary world more precious to you than knowing the love of God in Christ Jesus now and forever? Are the trinkets of the moment to be more prized than God’s mercy in Christ? Is there anything more precious than knowing that no matter what you’ve done or where you’ve been, life IN HIM can be fresh and new today? He offers you eternal life right now as a gift, apart from any works you have or have not done. Only Christ Jesus can remove everything that stands in the way of having a life that is good, meaningful, and enduring. Trust in what is truly valuable today — your life in Christ! Then the very same Jesus who urged this man to follow Him urges us to live for Him as well. But, first, hear another promise from Him as you face this week. Jesus says, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).PRAYER: Dear Lord Jesus, it’s easy to get caught up in the treasures of the here and now. Give us eyes to see that only in and through You does life become precious, purposeful, and eternal. Then give me the wisdom to follow You as I take up the challenges of today. AMEN
