Greetings in the name of Him who has called us out of darkness and into His marvelous light! My name is Rev. Mark Hofferber and I am your new pastor at Grace Lutheran Church in Desoto and St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Bon Terre.
I am a retired pastor, having served 26 years in parishes in the Montana District and Southern Illinois District. After graduating from Concordia Seminary in 1995, my first call was to St. Paul and St. John Lutheran Churches in Bridger and Belfry, MT from 1995-1998. I then took a call to Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto, IL in 1998 and served there 14 years as a youth pastor and seven years as the senior pastor. I then took a call to Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoffman, IL and retired from there in January 2023. My wife is Kristi and we have two children. I work for Quik Trip as a manager. Kristi works from home for a national pro-life organization called 40 Days for Life. She has a master's degree in social work. Nate is 21 years old and serving in the army in Georgia. We anticipate that he will be going on a deployment later this year. Kelsey is in the 5th grade at Salem Lutheran School in Affton.
I am an avid Denver Bronco fan in football and Milwaukee Brewers fan in baseball. I used to enjoy playing sports, especially basketball and softball but aged out of doing those things. Now I simply watch. I also enjoy reading, going to movies, and hanging out with family.
I am excited to be sharing God's Word with you on a regular basis and bringing some pastoral stability to the two churches. We have a Savior who is pretty awesome I believe. I encourage you in your daily walk with Jesus. After Lent and Easter we will be holding bible study at 7 pm on Wednesday evenings in the sanctuary at Grace and these bible studies will also be recorded and posted on the You Tube channel. I look forward to getting to know all of you in the upcoming days and months.
